Daejeon Korean restaurant for nakji and yeonpo-tang: Chongil Nakji

Where did we go for nakji bokkeum and yeonpo-tang together?

On the weekend, my husband and I looked for somewhere to eat near Lotte Department Store in Daejeon. He likes yeonpo-tang (clear octopus soup), while I like sweet and spicy nakji bokkeum (stir-fried octopus), so we went to Chongil Nakji, Tanbang branch (촌길낙지 탄방점), where we could have both.

How did we check parking and visit details?

We drove there, and the dedicated parking building connected directly to the restaurant building was convenient. The parking area also felt spacious, so we parked without difficulty and went inside.

What were ordering and the wait like?

The interior was neatly kept. We selected dine-in at the kiosk by the entrance to order. We arrived a little early, at a time when there were no other customers, so we were seated without waiting that day.

How did the nakji bokkeum and yeonpo-tang taste?

After a short wait, the bubbling yeonpo-tang and red-sauced nakji bokkeum arrived one after the other. What stood out most as we ate was how light the dishes were overall. For my taste, the seasoning was not overpowering and was gently seasoned, while the octopus was tender to chew. My stomach also felt comfortable after the meal.

The banchan (side dishes) included bean sprouts, musaengchae (seasoned shredded radish), and pickled onions. The bean sprouts were crisp, and the pickled onions were salty and refreshing. Since the bean sprouts and musaengchae were not overly seasoned, they went well with the nakji bokkeum.

How did I mix rice with the nakji bokkeum?

When I mixed rice with the nakji bokkeum, I added plenty of bean sprouts and musaengchae. Then I added two spoonfuls of yeonpo-tang broth that my husband had served me, which softened the spicy flavor and kept the rice moist and savory until the end.

How much did the two of us order?

We ordered two servings of nakji bokkeum and two servings of yeonpo-tang, four servings in total. At first, the amount looked quite generous, and I wondered whether we could finish it all.

As we ate, the mild flavor did not become tiring, and we finished both dishes without leftovers. It was a meal that suited both my husband, who likes soup, and me, who likes stir-fries.

Customers kept coming into the restaurant while we ate, and delivery notifications and takeout orders continued as well.

After finishing our meal, we registered our parking and left. We could accommodate our different menu preferences, and the visit was comfortable from driving there through finishing the meal.
