Craving brunch somewhere with real atmosphere, I stopped by Bueokgan Sangmu Branch on a weekday for lunch. It's a restaurant with a strong European feel and a wide range of Western-style dishes. The spacious, comfortable space made it a great spot for a Sangmu district date, and the popular rocket prosciutto pizza and lasagna were both satisfying!

Bueokgan Sangmu Branch sits between Jjamppong Jonja Jeonnam Gwangju branch and the Seogwangju Starbucks. It's tucked just off the busy main strip of Sangmu district, so it felt quieter than expected, and turning right past Jjamppong Jonja led straight to the private parking lot, so parking was easy. The exterior is styled to evoke a vintage European hotel — apparently inspired by the Titanic's ballroom.
The outdoor terrace in front of the entrance was also nicely styled, and it looked like a lovely spot for a leisurely meal on a nice day.
Inside Bueokgan Sangmu Branch: interior and seating
High ceilings and large windows gave the interior an open, airy feel, with vintage furniture and stylish decor coming together for a classic, upscale mood.
Overall it was spacious and comfortable, making it easy to relax through the whole meal — it seemed like it would work well not just for a Sangmu district date, but also for family gatherings, group dinners, or a pre-wedding meetup.
There was a coat hanger tucked in one corner, handy for stashing coats, and a baby chair was available too, so visiting with kids didn't feel like a hassle.

The menu at Bueokgan Sangmu Branch ranged from set meals to salads, sides, pasta, rice dishes, steak and pizza, plus drinks and alcohol, so there was plenty to choose from depending on the mood. It seemed like a good spot for a light brunch, or for lingering over a meal with wine or beer.

For drinks we ordered the single grapefruit and single orange — not overly sweet, and refreshing enough to pair well with the food. Green pepper sauce and pickles, which go well with Western dishes, were also served on the side so we could add them to taste.
Garden salad with prosciutto and snow cheese
The garden salad arrived first, with plenty of snow cheese piled over fresh vegetables and cherry tomatoes — even as a basic salad, it came with prosciutto, so it felt more substantial than expected.
The salty prosciutto and nutty cheese added depth, and paired with the fresh vegetables it tasted bright and clean. It wasn't heavy or overwhelming, making it a great way to whet the appetite before the meal.
Rocket prosciutto pizza with green pepper sauce
The rocket prosciutto pizza looked amazing, piled high with rocket over the dough and generously topped with prosciutto and cheese.
The rocket's distinctive fragrant flavor blended nicely with the savory saltiness of the prosciutto, making it easy to enjoy without feeling heavy. The dough was chewy with a nutty, well-baked edge that got better with every bite, and dipping it in the accompanying green pepper sauce added a subtle pepper aroma for a different kind of appeal.
Lasagna with house-simmered ragu sauce and eggplant
Layered with house-simmered ragu sauce, wide lasagna sheets, eggplant, and cheese.
Cut in half, the lasagna revealed so much cheese it was mouthwatering just to look at! The rich flavor of the house-simmered ragu sauce had soaked deep into the layers of lasagna sheets, and the eggplant kept what could have been a heavy dish tasting clean. On top of that, generous nutty cheese made every bite delicious to the very last.
A sweet candy wrapped up the meal nicely.
