Sushi buffet with kids' play room and group rooms in Bupyeong: KuuKuu

I'd been craving sushi for a while, so on a weekday evening I headed to KuuKuu Gold Bupyeong Branch. KuuKuu is such a well-known sushi buffet chain that a lot of people have probably been at least once — it's one of the places I think of when I want to eat all kinds of sushi in one sitting.

It's located on the 9th floor of Dong-A Wellbeing Town on Buheung-ro in Bupyeong-gu.

The building has its own parking lot, which made driving there convenient. Parking matters more than you'd think when you're eating with a group, so I liked that building parking was an option.

Menu board and pricing

Prices differ between weekday lunch, weekday dinner, and weekend/holiday. We went on a weekday evening and paid the dinner rate, which got us sushi as well as sashimi, rolls, tempura, hot food, and desserts — great for a day when you want to try a bit of everything.

One nice thing about a buffet is that sushi lovers and people who prefer other dishes can both visit together and just pick whatever they want. With this much variety for the price, it's worth keeping in mind if you're searching for Bupyeong sushi restaurants for a meal.

A good spot for a family outing or group gathering

The first thing I noticed walking in was that the place is bigger than I expected. There were tables of all sizes, so it looked like a solid choice for a family meal, a get-together with friends, or a group gathering. Since everyone can pick whatever they like from the spread, nobody has to worry even if the people you're with all want different things. It was busy for a weeknight dinner, but with so many food options, just browsing the counters made the time fly.

Walking around, I also liked that there's a separate kids' play room and group rooms. For families dining with children, having a play room where kids can hang out during the meal seems really convenient — kids can keep playing even after they're done eating, which takes some of the pressure off a family visit.

There are also group rooms, which looked good for family gatherings, friend meetups, or any kind of group meal. Regular tables can get a bit chaotic with a big group, but a group room lets your party eat comfortably together.

The main event is, of course, the sushi!

The moment we sat down, the first place I headed was the sushi corner.

If you're looking for Bupyeong sushi restaurants, sushi is probably what you're most excited about — and the biggest appeal of KuuKuu is that you're not stuck with one kind, you can pick a little of many kinds.

From familiar favorites like salmon, shrimp, and white fish sushi to all kinds of gunkan (battleship rolls) and rolls, there was plenty to choose from based on taste.

I figured if I went overboard right away I wouldn't have room for other food, so I started with small portions of the sushi I wanted.

Salad and sushi! Putting several kinds of sushi on one plate made it look pretty appetizing too.

If you like soft, savory flavors like salmon, this is a place you'll want to go back for seconds. The white fish had a clean, chewy texture, and there were several kinds of shrimp, which made picking and choosing fun.

Eating nothing but sushi can get a little heavy after a while, so it was nice to be able to mix in sashimi, seafood, and salads to change things up.

When you hear "sushi buffet," you usually think mainly of sushi and sashimi, but there were also plenty of hot food, tempura, salads, and desserts, so the options were pretty huge. First up, tempura and desserts.

There's a variety of fruit and cake too.

I went a little greedy and piled on a lot. That chocolate donut was tasty, and the yellow cheese crepe was amazing — rich and sweet.

There are lots of bead ice cream and other ice cream flavors to pick from too — soft serve, patbingsu (shaved ice with sweet red beans), and slushies.

There's also a ramyeon-cooking station and a beer corner.

Hot food

After the sushi, I tried a bit of everything else — being able to sample small portions of this and that is really the fun of a buffet.

Sushi lovers can stick mostly to sushi, and people who aren't as into it can pick from the other dishes. My boyfriend's plate... mostly hot food.

Then back to the seafood for a bit more. That flounder sushi was so chewy and good.

And since this location is KuuKuu Gold rather than regular KuuKuu, there was something extra I really liked — a self-grill meat corner.

Quite a few people were using the meat corner, called Yukhae Jinmi ("land and sea delicacies"). Vegetables, meat, and sauces were all unlimited too.

You just grill it right on this pan. It was raw meat, and the quality looked good. It sizzled away nicely. I even enjoyed the salty grilled garlic.

For my third plate, everyone grabbed a little of whatever they wanted.

A tip for the waffle corner: time it so you grab one right when the staff pulls it fresh off the grill. And I really loved these warm teas. Yum.

More hot food: stir-fried dishes

There were several warm dishes available, so it was easy to switch between sushi and other food throughout the meal. At a buffet, eating just one thing over and over can get old fast, but alternating between sushi and hot food kept things interesting the whole time.

I mostly focused on sushi but also brought back small portions of hot food to try, and with so many options it was fun picking a bit of this and that.

Add in the unlimited grilled meat corner that comes with KuuKuu Gold, and the range of dishes felt pretty wide for something billed as a sushi buffet. Being able to enjoy sushi, hot food, meat, and dessert all in one place was the biggest strength here.

A relaxed spot for a weekday evening

This visit was on a weekday evening, which felt like an easier, more relaxed time to go compared to weekends. Having easy parking if you're driving is a plus, and being able to handle sushi plus a wide range of other food and dessert all in one place is especially convenient when eating with a group.

Above all, if you're looking for Bupyeong sushi spots and want more than just sushi, this place feels like a good fit. If, like me, you'd rather taste a bit of many things than stick to one dish, KuuKuu is a pretty satisfying choice.

For a weekday evening when you're craving sushi, or when you want to eat comfortably with family or friends without arguing over the menu, KuuKuu Gold Bupyeong Branch — a good Bupyeong sushi restaurant — fits the bill. Next time I want to properly work through even more of the menu. This is the kind of place where you go for sushi and end up stuffed after trying a bit of everything, so I'd recommend not piling your plate too high at the start.
