A weekend family meal there featured the seafood-and-rib stew for two (₩48,000) with aged pork ribs so tender they fell off the bone, plus generous cod milt and roe, a wide dining room, ample on-site and underground parking, and a self-serve side dish bar made it a solid pick for group gatherings.

Ever since Haemokjeong Bupyeong Branch opened near my place, I'd pass by on weekends and always see it packed with customers. I love seafood, and I'd heard it's a great meeting spot near Baekun Station for family meals or group gatherings, so we finally went to check it out over the weekend.

Once we got there, the dining room was really spacious and clean, and the parking was well set up too — I could totally see why it's popular for group get-togethers. From seafood stew to braised ribs to the combined seafood-and-rib stew, there were plenty of dishes made for sharing with a crowd. Here's my review of this Sangok-dong, Bupyeong restaurant.

What was the interior and atmosphere like?

The first thing I noticed walking into Haemokjeong Bupyeong Branch was just how spacious it is! The tables were generously spaced and the overall look was clean, making it a good spot for a family meal with parents or for a big group gathering.

Parking and accessibility

When several people meet up, the food matters, but so does the size of the venue and parking, right? Haemokjeong has both on-site and underground parking, plus extra parking space near Baekun Station, so it was convenient to gather with several cars. Not having to stress about parking is honestly a big plus for a Baekun Station meeting spot.

It's also close to Baekun Station, so it works well as a meeting place for groups where some people drive and others take public transit.

Menu and prices

Haemokjeong's menu is built mainly around seafood, and it's quite varied. There are set menus for enjoying several dishes together, plus single items like seafood stew, braised ribs, seafood-and-rib stew, and hot pot, so it's easy to order according to group size or taste.

Since we wanted both seafood and ribs, we didn't hesitate to go with the seafood-and-rib stew.

  • Added 2 extra bowls of rice

Being able to eat seafood and meat in one dish, without having to order separately, was a big plus. It's a great dish to order according to your group size and share, so I'd especially recommend it if you're looking for a group dining spot near Baekun Station.

Side dishes and the self-serve bar

After ordering, the side dishes were neatly laid out first. There was seaweed soup, salad, cold mixed vegetables, and various accompaniments — a good spread to go along with the main seafood-and-rib stew, and I found myself reaching for one after another.

There's also a self-serve bar. When you're eating and want a second helping of a tasty side dish, it's nice not having to call a staff member every time — you can just go grab what you need yourself.

The seaweed soup and side dishes were a nice way to whet the appetite before the main dish arrived, and the whole table setting felt clean, which made me think this is a good Sangok-dong, Bupyeong restaurant to visit with parents.

How was the seafood-and-rib stew for two?

Finally, the star of the day — the seafood-and-rib stew! It came loaded with big ribs plus seafood including cod milt and roe, and looked pretty appetizing from the moment it arrived. If you're torn between the seafood stew and the braised ribs, just get the seafood-and-rib stew without a second thought!!

Above all, the ribs were really tender. Because the pork ribs are aged, the meat practically fell off the bone when I picked it up with chopsticks, and it wasn't tough at all, so it was easy to alternate bites with the seafood. The cod milt and roe had that distinctive savory, rich flavor that paired well with the spicy sauce.

I also liked the sauce. At medium spice level, Haemokjeong's special sauce wasn't overly spicy or harsh, but it wasn't too sweet either, so I kept going back for more.

I'd take a tender piece of rib, coat it well in sauce, eat it with rice, and toss in some cod milt and roe in between — a bowl of rice disappeared fast. For us, since we love both seafood and meat, this felt like exactly the right choice at this Sangok-dong, Bupyeong restaurant.
