Daejeon restaurant curry pork cutlet udon lunch: Gatjidong

While looking for a good restaurant in Yuseong, Daejeon, I visited Gatjidong Noeun Branch in Noeun-dong again. This was my second visit, and since I remembered enjoying my first one, I naturally stopped by again while looking for somewhere to have lunch in Noeun-dong.

Weekday lunch waits and the menu

I visited around 2 p.m. on a weekday, so it was fairly quiet. There are lots of offices nearby, though, so there can occasionally be a wait at weekday lunchtime. I guess a good restaurant needs a wait, right?

There was such a varied menu that choosing was part of the fun. Gatjidong's main specialty is donkatsu (Japanese-style breaded pork cutlet), but I personally love curry, so I ordered the katsu curry rice bowl and udon set.

A comfortable restaurant for solo meals or families

The dining area had an overall clean feel, with a variety of table arrangements. It seemed perfectly fine for eating alone and also had an easygoing atmosphere for visiting with family, so it felt like a comfortable place to drop into when looking for lunch.

A self-service bar with rice and soup

My personal favorite part was the self-service bar set up on one side of the restaurant. Along with rice and soup, there was kimchi and danmuji (pickled yellow radish), so I could take as many extra side dishes as I wanted. Having the warm soup and basic side dishes first was a nice way to whet my appetite while waiting for the main dish. There was plenty of rice, so much that I did not need to serve myself any more.

A filling katsu curry and udon set

Gatjidong Noeun Branch is a place where you can enjoy not only standard pork cutlets but also varied dishes such as oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl) and katsu curry. This time, I ordered the katsu curry and udon set. I ordered it because I love curry so much, and it was exactly my style.

Crisp pork cutlet with rich curry

When the food arrived, the crisp fried pork cutlet and curry immediately caught my eye. It was topped with finely chopped green onion too, which added a lovely onion aroma.

When I dipped the pork cutlet generously in the curry sauce, it had a different flavor from the pork cutlet I usually eat with brown sauce.

The rich curry added to the crisp pork cutlet made for a familiar yet different combination. Lately my stomach has felt bigger and I have not felt full even after eating, but the portion was so huge that I felt like I would burst once I finished it. The curry was delicious, so I polished off all that rice too.

Even more filling with udon

With udon included alongside the katsu curry, it made for a very filling meal. I alternated between dipping the pork cutlet in curry, having udon noodles and broth, then going back to the pork cutlet, and before I knew it, the plate was empty.

Another satisfying lunch in Noeun-dong

This was my second visit, and once again I left after a delicious meal. If you are looking for lunch in Noeun-dong or want to enjoy pork cutlet and katsu curry near Noeun Station, it is a place worth trying at least once. If you want a more relaxed meal than during weekday lunch hours, I think visiting on the weekend could be nice too. I came back because of my good memories from the first visit, and Gatjidong Noeun Branch let me finish this meal feeling happy once again.
