Family visit with kid, rice-crust ending: Jeonju House in Daejeon

In short

Jeonju House is a Korean restaurant near Gyeryong Spatel in Bongmyeong-dong, Yuseong, Daejeon. Returning with her husband and child, the writer ordered galbi kimchi stew for two and a jumbo egg roll, finishing with pot rice turned into rice-crust rice topped with the stew. The broth was rich and savory rather than just spicy, with plenty of galbi (short rib), making it a great meal for the whole family.

A place you once ate well at stays on your mind even as time passes, right? For me, Jeonju House is exactly that kind of place!

Especially whenever I'm in Bongmyeong-dong in Yuseong or heading to the hot springs, I think of Jeonju House and that cool, savory broth with generous galbi (short rib) I remember enjoying so much! So my husband, our kid, and I went back again — a place we just keep returning to!

A Yuseong Korean restaurant that's easy to find, near Gyeryong Spatel

As always, it's a busy restaurant no matter when you go, and since it's near Gyeryong Spatel, it's easy to find — a great spot for anyone looking for a Korean restaurant in Yuseong, Daejeon. The crowd ranges from office workers to families.

The interior is quite spacious too! We sat in one of the comfortable spots on the split left-and-right seating, and the staff were really kind and set everything up nicely.

The side dishes at the self-service corner were also neatly prepared! There's tofu for the stew there too, so you can grab that yourself.

Galbi kimchi stew again, of course

Looking at the menu, I briefly considered trying something else. The pork belly looked so good too, like last time, haha! But I couldn't forget that cool broth, so in the end we ordered galbi kimchi stew for two again! And of course the jumbo egg roll too — it just wouldn't feel right without it, so we ordered that as well.

Basic side dishes even the kid enjoys

The basic side dishes were laid out like this! They provided kids' tableware for us too, and these side dishes are always so good that I end up eating the salad or mul-kimchi (water kimchi) before the meal even starts! Our kid really loves the bean sprouts here too. Still such a nice variety of clean, tasty side dishes!

Galbi kimchi stew served full in a pot

Then the galbi kimchi stew we'd been waiting for arrived!! It came out packed full in a pretty pot, ready to keep simmering at the table — and it already looked amazing, so mouthwatering!

And with the rice served as pot rice, what more could you ask for~~ Lifting the lid off the hot, well-cooked pot rice, steam rises up! They also set aside some in a bowl and prepared rice-crust rice for later!

The thick jumbo egg roll

Next, the thick egg roll showed up right away!!!!!! While the kimchi stew was cooking, we picked at it piece by piece and it disappeared like magic... but don't underestimate it, because it's really, really thick and big?????

It's so good that if you keep eating it, you might lose room for the kimchi stew, so pace yourself, haha. The egg roll also pairs really well with the kimchi stew, so I definitely recommend eating them together!! Soon the kimchi stew started bubbling away, so my husband picked it up and got it ready.

As the rich kimchi stew aroma rose up, it really got my appetite going. Inside were big, generous chunks of galbi (short rib), which looked hearty just to see! He cut the galbi into bite-sized pieces, waited a bit until the broth was properly boiling, then turned the heat down — ready to eat!

I took a spoonful and, yep, that's the taste!!! The broth is rich but not heavy, with a cool, clean edge that keeps you spooning it up. The deep flavor of the kimchi blends beautifully with the savoriness from the meat, and it was really great eaten with rice.

What I really liked was that it's not just aggressively spicy kimchi stew — the broth itself is clean yet deep in flavor. Maybe that's why I kept going back for more of the broth too.

Plenty of galbi with a spoonful of rice

The galbi had a good amount of meat on it too, which made it fun to eat. Putting a thick piece of galbi with kimchi on rice made for a really filling bite. My husband said it was delicious and ate well too, which made me proud even though I was the one who brought him here~~ He's not usually someone who loves kimchi stew, but he always eats well here!!! I guess good food really does taste even better shared.

The portions are really generous so we were already full, but we opened up the rice-crust rice we'd set aside earlier and topped it with the stew. Even the finishing touch was excellent — this really is a great Korean restaurant. Since the kimchi stew has galbi in it, you get to eat more generously than with regular kimchi stew — such a great place!

I wanted to share this with anyone looking for a place to eat near Yuseong hot springs or searching for a restaurant in Bongmyeong-dong, Daejeon. There's a pork belly menu too, so next time we can try something different, but this is a place where you can properly enjoy that savory, cool kimchi stew that Koreans love most! It's not a taste that ends after one bite — it's the kind you crave again from time to time. A hearty, satisfying place that's great for the whole family.
