I'd really wanted to visit this Gwangjang Market spot, Ssuk's Choco Pie Seoul. The 'ssuk' in the name is mugwort, the herb that appears alongside the bear in Korea's founding myth of Dangun — a truly Korean ingredient. Ssuk's choco pies are refrigerated, so the freshness is on a different level. Unlike regular choco pies, this is a chilled fresh choco pie, so you can taste how fresh the cream is.
A pretty pamphlet and business card were tucked inside too. This would make a really great gift.
Opening it up, it's so pretty, T_T. Desserts really do give that satisfaction from visuals alone. I felt so happy the moment I opened it!

Today's pick: the Gwangju Real Choco pie cut in half
Today's pick is the Gwangju real choco. It's individually seal-wrapped to keep it from air exposure. Clean enough packaging that you could buy the whole box and share it with people.
The choco pie is almost the size of a whole cake. Big and heavy. And it seems like they used really good ingredients — the second I tore it open, a rich cacao smell hit me.
The cross-section has quite a bit of height too.
It cuts very smoothly. Inside is packed with fresh whipped cream, not marshmallow. The taste is less sweet than I expected, with a deep cacao flavor and crunchy nuts. It feels like a delicious cacao deep cake. Eating just one really fills you up, haha. Goes really, really well with milk.

Coming from Jongno 5-ga Station Exit 7 to the Namil Gate of Gwangjang Market, you run right into Ssuk's Choco Pie Seoul at the entrance. There are so many delicious snacks around here — this is where Gwangjang Market's food spots are clustered.
Ssuk's Choco Pie Seoul is decorated in mugwort green, which gives it a very kitschy, cute feel.
It stands out even from far away, so it's not hard to find.
Inside the shop and the free tasting

There's a Ssuk's choco pie display case,
and as soon as you walk in, a staff member helps you with a free tasting — super kind, and the tasting portion is huge too, haha.
The inside was so cute that it was fun just looking around.
As a Gwangjang Market spot, it sells traditional Korean-style desserts, but it has a really charming, cute, and polished feel.
I personally love the green with white-and-black combo, so it was fun taking photos.
Menu, events and gift packaging
Ssuk's Choco Pie Seoul, the Gwangjang Market spot, was running various events. The sampler comes with a full 3-piece set of Ssuk's cookies, so definitely try to join in.
You can also get free gift stickers attached. They sell drinks too, and offer courier shipping. There are ice cooler bags for takeout customers as well.
Ssuk's wine is even displayed on the shelves, making it a really great gift lineup. Sweet choco pie and wine pair well together, after all.
