Seocho pub for arugula pizza and nonalcoholic beer: Weizenhaus

In Sadang, where meat restaurants and pocha (Korean drinking tents) are everywhere, I sometimes find myself craving a neat pub where I can enjoy pizza and beer with a bit of atmosphere. The Weizenhaus Bangbae Branch 1 (바이젠하우스 방배1호점) I visited this time was exactly what I needed 🍕🍺

An exotic pub right by Sadang Station Exit 11

It is right in front of Sadang Station Exit 11. With its brick exterior, polished lighting, and signage, Weizenhaus Bangbae Branch 1 has a distinctly exotic pub feel.

Follow the stairs down to the basement and...

you enter a spacious room with high, open ceilings, so it never feels cramped. There is even mezzanine seating connected by a metal staircase in the middle.

The restroom inside was clean and spacious, and there was plenty of seating too.

The dim yet warm orange pin lights softly shine over each table, creating an atmosphere that would work nicely for a date, a group gathering, or a Sadang work dinner.

On one wall, I could clearly see the red wood-fired oven beyond the open kitchen and watch the pizzas being baked with my own eyes 👀

Tablet ordering and nonalcoholic beer

You can order from the tablet at each table. The menu was as substantial as you would expect from a craft beer specialist, with snacks including wood-fired pizzas, chicken, and platters, plus Suntory draft beer, dark beer, and pale ale. They even thoughtfully stock nonalcoholic beer, so it is easy to hang out here with friends who cannot drink or are abstaining.

After ordering, chilled beer arrived first, along with crispy, savory shrimp chips as the complimentary starter.

I ordered Suntory draft beer and Jeju Nouveau nonalcoholic beer. The Suntory draft, topped with smooth creamy foam, was deeply refreshing going down, with a clean, pleasantly bitter malt flavor! The Jeju Nouveau nonalcoholic beer had a gentle citrus fragrance and tasted every bit as good as a regular ale.

How light is the arugula wood-fired pizza?

First up, the arugula wood-fired pizza arrived on a large pan and immediately caught my eye with its looks.

Fresh from the wood-fired oven, its rim had puffed up golden brown, and it was generously topped with fresh arugula, tomatoes, and balsamic glaze.

Taking a slice, I found the dough chewy with a crisp exterior, beautifully balanced with rich tomato sauce and nutty cheese 🍕

The pleasantly bitter, fragrant arugula and sweet-tangy balsamic sauce cut through all the richness, so I could finish every last bite without getting tired of it.

Wood-fired herb chicken, baked without grease

The wood-fired herb chicken was beyond expectations too,, Rather than being fried in oil, it was baked in the oven's intense heat, leaving the skin crisp and golden while rendering out the grease for a light flavor.

I pulled off some chicken and took a bite—the subtle herb and smoky aromas spread through my mouth, while the meat inside stayed juicy,,

Dunking it generously in the accompanying mustard sauce or pairing it with the crunchy cabbage pickles made it an absolutely perfect beer snack.

Near the bustling Sadang Station area, this is a great place to enjoy high-quality pizza and beer amid spacious high ceilings and exotic interiors 🍕🍺 I recommend Weizenhaus to anyone stopping by after work to chat with friends, or looking for a second stop for a group work dinner!
