Seocho bar terrace drinks and Nagasaki jjamppong: Gobusi

In short

Gobusi Nonhyeon Branch is an izakaya-style bar in Seocho, Seoul, between Nonhyeon and Sinsa Stations. On the first outdoor-drinking night of fall, I had spicy Nagasaki jjamppong for 2.9, assorted skewers for 2.2, and highballs for 0.9. Verdict: a lovely pick for proper bar food and a relaxed drink.

The first outdoor drinking night of fall, between Nonhyeon and Sinsa Stations

This time, I went to Gobusi, an izakaya-style bar tucked into an alley between Nonhyeon and Sinsa Stations. I’d heard all the bar food was delicious and had saved it for ages without making it there—then finally went, haha.

There is separate terrace seating on a deck in front of the shop. When I went, it was around sunset on a Monday, and all but one terrace table was taken. On a Monday, too—everyone’s enthusiasm for alcohol is seriously amazing..! I couldn’t sit that out, either, haha. I was out on a Monday because it was exactly the kind of weather when you just can’t resist outdoor drinking, lol. Let’s enjoy the first outdoor drinks of fall! So we grabbed a terrace table!

Inside, it’s a mood-filled izakaya with exposed-concrete walls covered in old posters.

Further inside, there are counter seats facing the kitchen, too. Sake is lined up along the shelves, so it looked like a nice place to come for a solo drink!

Here’s the terrace table where we settled in, haha. Check out the menu video!

The table was all set, it was getting dark outside—and the mood was perfect!

Spicy Nagasaki jjamppong with both seafood and beef

A bowl of spicy Nagasaki jjamppong

Today’s star!! This is the spicy Nagasaki jjamppong. The presentation surprised me as soon as it arrived. It was packed, no skimping at all, with huge mussels, shrimp, squid, cabbage, and bean sprouts. But the real point here is that it doesn’t contain seafood alone—there’s beef in it too!

The refreshing flavor from the seafood and the deep, rich flavor from the meat come together in the broth... I really loved that combination ㅠㅠ It isn’t a clear jjamppong broth; it’s slightly thick, so the seasoning clings beautifully to the noodles. We ordered it spicy, but it wasn’t overly hot—just the kind of addictive flavor that keeps you going back for another spoonful.

My boyfriend and I both aren’t huge seafood fans, so we don’t usually like jjamppong that tastes only of seafood, but here the seafood-and-meat balance was simply so good! Its biggest advantage is that it works both as drinking food and as a finishing hangover cure 👍

Assorted skewers that were perfect for two to sample

We also ordered the assorted skewers! Since there are several kinds, they’re perfect for two people to try a little of everything.

The salted beef skewer was crisp outside and juicy within; a little squeeze of lemon cut right through the richness. The chicken-skin and ginkgo-nut skewers were real treats too.

Personally, my favorites were the skewers rolled up in bacon and grilled! The fat rendered right out, and their savory saltiness made me want another drink, lol.

Bacon skewers and rolled-egg skewers

There was also a rolled-egg skewer topped generously with katsuobushi (bonito flakes) and mayonnaise, and it was perfect for cleansing the palate between bites of jjamppong.

From highballs to soju and Cheongha

Our first drink was a highball! Just something light to get the palate going, haha.

Once the jjamppong arrived, we moved on to soju—Jinro Zero Sugar, followed by Cheongha.

Glasses prepared to suit different types of alcohol

They kept changing our glasses to suit the alcohol, and somehow drinking from celadon cups made the atmosphere feel even better, lol.

Kind service, even when mosquitoes sent us indoors

As we ate, there were still mosquitoes around, so we eventually moved inside at the end. Since we had been eating for quite a while, I felt so sorry asking whether we could move—we said we would carry everything ourselves. But the staff didn’t seem bothered at all; they said they would move the food themselves and completely reset our table. That kind of kindness! How could you not fall for it, haha. Thanks to them, we ate happily right to the end 🤍

If you want a quiet drink without too much noise, and want seriously good bar food too, I think this is a place worth putting on your list!
