Doenjang stew and pork bulgogi set meal, Gondre rice: Yeongwolae
In short
Yeongwolae Gondre Ansan Branch is a Korean restaurant with private rooms in Gojan-dong, Ansan, Gyeonggi. Visiting as two, the writer ordered the country-style doenjang stew set meal and the Yeongwol pork bulgogi set meal, filling up at the self-serve bar with gondre rice, white rice, side dishes, wrapping greens, sujeonggwa and sikhye as much as they liked. With mild not-too-salty doenjang stew, smoky pork bulgogi, generous gondre rice and even baby dishware on hand, it's a solid pick for a meal with parents or a baby in tow.

Do you know a good Korean restaurant in Ansan? I was looking for a proper Korean set-meal place to take my parents and came across one in Gojan-dong — Yeongwolae Gondre (영월애곤드레)! Let me introduce it to you!

How long is the wait?
Yeongwol Gondre was already famous as a great set-meal restaurant in Gojan-dong, Ansan. Maybe because it's such a good place to take parents, there's often a bit of a wait — but the wait time is short and there's a proper waiting area, so it's really comfortable to wait there.

A room restaurant great for taking your parents
Here's the big reason this is such a good Ansan restaurant to take your parents to — they have private rooms ready for family or group gatherings! The food is clean and tidy overall, and with rooms available too, it's a nice place for a family to chat away comfortably.

On top of that, the restaurant itself is huge with plenty of seating, so it would be perfect for group gatherings or company dinners too!

Ordering for two: country-style doenjang stew set and Yeongwol pork bulgogi set
The menu is full of various Korean dishes — soy-marinated crab, bulgogi, pork bulgogi and more, from set meals to single dishes, all looking so delicious and neat that it was hard to choose. We visited as two, so we ordered the doenjang stew set meal and the Yeongwol pork bulgogi set meal.

What's at the self-serve bar
While waiting for the food, I checked out the self-serve bar too. There's sujeonggwa (cinnamon punch) and sikhye (sweet rice drink) to enjoy alongside the meal, plus side dishes you can help yourself to, and a variety of wrapping greens with free refills! Personally I eat a lot of side dishes, so I always feel bad asking for more — but here it's self-serve, so there's no need to worry about that.

And gondre rice and white rice are self-serve too! No need to order an extra bowl of rice — you can refill rice and side dishes freely at the self-serve bar, so it's zero problem for big eaters.

Baby chairs and baby dishware
I went to grab baby bowls and dishware from the self-serve bar, but a staff member spotted our baby and quickly set everything up for us first. The baby chair was sturdy and good, and there was a wide variety of baby dishware ready, so it looked like a great place to come with parents and with a baby too.

A generous full table
While we were browsing the self-serve bar, our meal came out in no time — a whole spread of various side dishes, the mains, and gondre rice, making for a really generous table.

Country-style doenjang stew
The country-style doenjang stew I ordered came out in such a generous portion I found myself asking, is this really just doenjang stew?

Mixed into rice or wrapped in greens, it just kept going down — a genuinely addictive doenjang stew. It wasn't salty at all, with a strong mild, clean flavor that I think parents would really love.

Yeongwol pork bulgogi
The pork bulgogi had a strong smoky char and an appealingly savory sauce. It was delicious wrapped up with the doenjang stew, and just as good eaten plain — the kind of solid, classic flavor that made me think, yep, this is a real Korean food gem.

Gondre rice that even the baby ate well
Here's the other big reason this is great for bringing your parents — the gondre rice was genuinely delicious. They're not stingy with the gondre at all, and even our baby ate it up happily.

Why I'd recommend this Ansan Korean restaurant
So that's my recommendation for a great Ansan Korean restaurant — Yeongwolae Gondre in Gojan-dong! Every single side dish was delicious and the staff were so kind that I left really satisfied. If you're looking for a restaurant to take your parents to, or a place with private rooms, I'd recommend this one — and with that, I'll wrap up this post!
