Disposable gloves for eating jjokgalbi by hand

What is jjokgalbi for, if not eating with your hands? Definitely grab a pair!

The menu and portion size

One serving of jjokgalbi comes with 6-7 pieces — you know how jjokgalbi usually has barely any meat on it? This place at Hanyang University Station gives you quite a lot! Order according to how many people you have and add more as needed.

Make sure you join the Naver review event and get the honeycomb pork skin or steamed egg. Donggu-ri went with the pork skin!

All the jjokgalbi comes fully cooked, so you'll wait about 15 minutes — but it barely took 10, and you can eat the stew in the meantime haha.

Side dishes and sundubu jjigae

A spread of basic side dishes including green onion kimchi and corn salad
Stir-fried fish cake and pickled onions side dishes

The basic side dishes were green onion kimchi, corn salad, stir-fried fish cake, pickled onions, and a mini pair of tongs. Personally I'd recommend disposable gloves over the tongs 👍🏻 The pickled onions and baek-kimchi paired best with everything haha.

The sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew) was so good! Salty, sweet, and a little spicy — perfect combo 🙏🏻

Salt, garlic, and spicy jjokgalbi: how does the fully-cooked version taste?

Eek, finally here! The jjokgalbi arrives cooked all the way through, looking so juicy! From top left: salt jjokgalbi, garlic jjokgalbi, spicy jjokgalbi.

Salt, garlic, and spicy jjokgalbi served together

You absolutely have to get the cheese add-on!!!! Dipping in it is so nutty and delicious!

Jjokgalbi served with added cheese

Still, to warm it up and make it even nuttier, let's put it on the grill~

Fully-cooked jjokgalbi being warmed on the grill

The meat is way meatier than you'd expect from jjokgalbi, right?? It comes off the bone easily and you get nice big bites! This jjokgalbi isn't really jjokgalbi... it's just meat~ No gamey smell at all, nutty and tears apart easily!

Dip it into the cheese and the nuttiness doubles! So good 👍🏻

A meaty piece of salt jjokgalbi
Jjokgalbi with grill marks

They grill it with nice char marks lol, and it pairs best with the pickled onions and baek-kimchi!!

Garlic jjokgalbi topped with garlic

Now the spicy jjokgalbi and garlic jjokgalbi~! The spicy one isn't spicy at all!! Spice wimps, give it a try. The garlic jjokgalbi looks like it has a lot of garlic on top, but it's not overpowering at all — the subtle garlic aroma was really nice.

Honeycomb pork skin received from the review event

Review-event pork skin and closing ice cream

The pork skin from the review event!!! It even comes with a nice touch of injeolmi (rice cake) powder haha.

Dipping it fully in the powder — ah, so delicious~! This one also paired really well with the pickled onions and baek-kimchi haha.

Before heading home after the meal, ice cream to cleanse the palate~! The owner's small thoughtful touches bring customers a lot of happiness ♥️

It was so good I ended up ordering extra jjokgalbi to go as a late-night snack for my parents!
