Sunday lunch with no wait at Gwanggyo Japanese restaurant Gyuen-dang

My friend and I always do a 'world food tour' when we meet up, and today's country was Japan!! We went for a weekend lunch of gyukatsu (Japanese-style deep-fried beef cutlet).

There are so many restaurants at Avenue France Gwanggyo, but we settled on Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch. It has omurice on the menu too, not just gyukatsu, so it seemed like a good pick for going with someone whose tastes differ from yours.

Sirloin gyukatsu and hamburger steak omurice! The sirloin gyukatsu was fun to grill yourself, and the hamburger steak omurice's soft egg paired really well with the hamburger steak.

Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo hours, break time and parking

Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch is located at 85 Central Town-ro, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do, and is open daily from 11:30 to 22:00. Last order is at 21:00, and there's a weekday break time from 15:00 to 17:00, with no break time on weekends.

For parking, use the Avenue France underground parking lot — parking in section D24 on basement level 2 makes it convenient when visiting the restaurant. Parking support is up to 4 hours ‼️

What does Gyuen-dang look like inside and out?

Avenue France has a European feel, but Gyuen-dang looks Japanese from the outside.

Inside, the whole space had a warm wood-tone interior, and the bright atmosphere made it a nice spot to stop by for lunch.

We went on a Sunday during lunch hours, and there were quite a few people eating, but there was no wait!! Since they have CatchTable set up, there might normally be a wait though!!

There's also a solo dining table, so it looked like a good spot for everything from solo meals to meals with friends to dates.

Gyuen-dang menu and what we ordered for Sunday lunch

Looking at Gyuen-dang's signature menu, there are two main items: gyukatsu and omurice.

• Hamburger steak omurice ₩17,000

The sirloin gyukatsu came out first! The visual alone was insane 🤤

It seems like part of the fun with gyukatsu is grilling it yourself to your preferred doneness. You just place small pieces on the little brazier they give you and grill them bit by bit.

We spread the butter that came with it first, then put the meat on. It was delicious dipped in the sauce, but dipping it in the salt or wasabi that came alongside gave it a whole different feel. Our one pick was the wasabi!!!!! I thought the texture would be a bit firm, but it melted away smoothly in my mouth.

How was the hamburger steak omurice at 17,000 won?

The second dish was the hamburger steak omurice. It was even tastier than I expected!! Visually it looked like a giant egg sushi. Totally smooth, soft egg omelette 😲

We gently cut it in half with a knife and spread it open. It looked like it might fail at first, but the result turned out pretty impressive 👍🏻 Guess I'm better at this than I thought?

Splitting it open, there was hamburger steak and rice inside — the egg was completely soft and fluffy, and the sauce was rich, so it went well with the rice. The hamburger steak was also nicely thick, so eating egg, rice, and hamburger steak together in one bite was so good.

Is Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo worth it?

Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch, which I visited this time, was a Japanese restaurant where you can enjoy both gyukatsu and omurice. I actually enjoyed the hamburger steak omurice more than the sirloin gyukatsu!!!

It's a good spot to visit when you're craving a clean Japanese menu around lunchtime, and since it's located in Avenue France, it's also nice to look around the area before or after your meal.
