I visited Stack Bakery, which has been getting a lot of buzz near Konkuk Univ. Station lately. I'd heard a French YouTuber raved about it, so my expectations were high, and the baker making the bread is a foreigner too, so the place really felt like a bakery back in France.
A Konkuk Univ. bakery full of French feeling. If you love bread, you have to go 🤍

What do the exterior and atmosphere of Stack Bakery look like?
Stack Bakery is a standalone building, so it stands out even from far away. A whole building to itself!

Easy to spot from a distance

Is that a sheep or a goat? haha

There's a mailbox too. It's ranked as the best croissant place in Seoul!

An open kitchen where a foreign baker bakes
The moment I walked into Stack Bakery, the smell of freshly baked butter filled the air. The open space lets you watch the bread being made up close, and there was a foreign pâtissier at work!

It's famous enough that a French YouTuber visited and introduced it, and a lot of people were on a bakery pilgrimage (bbangji sunrye)!

The 2nd-floor seating is spacious too
Stack Bakery has quite a roomy seating area upstairs as well.

Me in my scruffy, sloppy look haha. Purchase done!
Stack Bakery menu
Here are photos of the Stack Bakery menu. There's a wide variety of croissants and pastries.

What to eat at Stack Bakery: croissants and pastries
This time I picked a hazelnut kouign-amann, kaya croissant, Nutella and peanut pastry, Maldon salt bread, olive cheese pastry and strawberry ricotta croissant.

Kaya croissant
The kaya croissant at Stack Bakery has a generous amount of kaya jam (coconut egg jam) between layers of flaky croissant, for a soft sweetness. Buttery aroma plus that signature sweet kaya flavor!! The croissants here in particular are really crispy and tender... Is this the kind of bread French people grew up eating???

Nutella and peanut pastry
The sweetest item was the Nutella and peanut pastry! Rich Nutella and nutty peanuts are packed inside the crispy pastry, and the more you chew, the more you taste both nuttiness and sweetness! I was full, so I ate it the next day and it was still good! I should have eaten it right away, it would have been even better, and I rolled around in regret ㅜ

Hazelnut kouign-amann
The hazelnut kouign-amann is crisply caramelized on the outside, with a strong buttery flavor inside. With the nutty aroma of hazelnut added, it's sweet but not heavy, and it went really well with coffee!
Olive cheese pastry
The olive cheese pastry is packed with salty cheese and olives, which makes it perfect as a meal bread! The flavor seems like it would pair well with wine too. But seriously, the pastries here are no joke. So crispy

Maldon salt bread
Stack Bakery's Maldon salt bread is a basic item, but I understood right away why it's popular. It was crispy outside and moist inside with a strong buttery flavor, and the subtle saltiness of Maldon salt brings out the butter's richness, so I couldn't stop reaching for more!!! As expected.. it's different
Overall, every bread had real butter flavor and layers, and even a single piece gave me the full charm of a French-style bakery!
Detailed review ✨
Stack Bakery isn't just a famous bakery. The fundamentals of its bread are really solid! The butter used without holding back, the pastry layers stacked one by one, and fillings that let the ingredients' own flavors shine all made for high overall quality. Having tried it myself, I understand why the French YouTuber introduced it, and since a foreign baker makes it, you get that local style as it is!
