Gangnam Market sashimi dinner for two, Incheon: Uridongne Yeonan Budu

I was out on a Sunday evening and on my way home I kept thinking, what should I eat tonight? After a while of debating, I suddenly really wanted sashimi haha

Usually when I'm craving sashimi I go to the fish market and get it to take home, but this time for some reason I wanted to just sit down and eat comfortably at a neighborhood sashimi place.

So my mom and I went to Uridongne Yeonan Budu in Seoknam-dong :)

Where is Uridongne Yeonan Budu, and how far is it from Seoknam Station?

Uridongne Yeonan Budu is near Gangnam Market. It's about a 15-minute walk from Seoknam Station, which is a fine distance to stroll on a cool day.

If you take the bus, it drops you close to the restaurant, so getting there by public transit wasn't inconvenient either!

I've actually been near Gangnam Market plenty of times, but I only really realized this time how many places to eat there are down this particular alley.

As evening set in, customers started coming in one by one and the whole area felt pretty lively. It wasn't even peak time that day, but regulars kept walking in, which got me even more excited!! Places that have been loved in a neighborhood for a long time really do have a lot of regulars. Personally I'd say this counts as a Seoknam-dong local favorite :)

What the room feels like: a relaxed neighborhood sashimi spot

The atmosphere wasn't overly formal — it felt like the kind of neighborhood sashimi spot where you'd casually have a drink and eat raw fish. My mom and I went together and it was easy to enjoy the meal without any pressure, and the owner was really kind too, which made everything feel comfortable :)

It seemed like a great spot for a family meal, a casual drink with a friend, or a plate of sashimi after work haha

The flatfish set let you choose between grilled fish or spicy stew.

We picked the spicy stew without hesitation. We wanted to eat the sashimi and finish with hot soup too, haha.

How generous are the side dishes?

While waiting for the main sashimi, we worked through the side dishes one by one, and there were more varieties than I expected, so the table filled up fast haha

From corn cheese to soy sauce shrimp, steamed shrimp, kimchi pancake and more — it's not just plain sashimi, there are several dishes prepared to eat alongside it.

The seasoned raw fish salad (hoemuchim) in particular was really good. It was tangy and really perked up your appetite, and it went so well with warm rice haha

My favorite bite: flatfish with perilla leaf and seasoned raw fish salad

Of everything I ate that day, this combo was the best!!! Perilla leaf + flatfish + hoemuchim.

I laid down a perilla leaf, put a piece of flatfish on top, then added a bit of hoemuchim — this was pure bliss...haha

Even just dipping the flatfish lightly in soy sauce with a squeeze of lemon was delicious!

The clean flavor of the flatfish, the tangy hoemuchim, and the fragrant perilla leaf all combined felt way more delicious than eating the sashimi plain~

And having a bit of warm bean sprout soup in between~! It was a different kind of fun compared to buying sashimi at the fish market haha

How the flatfish sashimi tasted: clean and mild

The flatfish we had overall had a clean, light flavor that kept us reaching for more without feeling heavy! It worked whether you ate it plain, dipped in doenjang paste or soy sauce, or wrapped with perilla leaf.

Best of all, eating it alongside all the different side dishes meant it never felt like one repeating flavor, so we never got tired of it.

Maybe that's why, chatting with my mom while eating, the plate emptied out fast :)

Finishing with spicy stew, sujebi dough flakes and ramen noodles

After sashimi, you've got to finish with soup! The spicy stew we chose came out too haha. But it wasn't just broth — it had hand-torn dough (sujebi) and instant ramen noodles in it too, so it was way more filling than I expected.

Even though we were already pretty full from the sashimi, scooping up the sujebi from the hot broth and adding the ramen noodles let us properly fill up right to the end haha. Between the sashimi, the sides, the rice, and the stew, the two of us ended up quite stuffed.

Sashimi in your own neighborhood instead of the fish market

I went in on a sudden sashimi craving, and it turned out to be a great, comfortable place to eat with my mom, with the bonus of enjoying the sides, the hoemuchim, and the spicy stew all in one meal~!
