Goyang garden café with melon bingsu: Baedagol Bakery House

In short

Baedagol Bakery House is a bakery café with a large garden and rooftop in Wondang, Goyang. I enjoyed specialty-bean coffee, six-clove garlic bread, fruit Basque cheesecake, and fresh melon bingsu while looking out at the greenery through full-height windows. Verdict: a lovely place to unwind in the garden on a cool day.

Baedagol Bakery House (배다골베이커리하우스), in Wondang, Goyang, is known as one of Goyang's large cafés with especially nice ambiance.

Beyond the atmosphere, it has healthy, delicious bread, coffee made with specialty beans, and seasonal desserts. It really feels like a perfect café that misses neither flavor nor ambiance.

Free parking is available for 10 cars in front of the café and more than 40 cars in the dedicated parking lots across the street (Lots 2 and 3), for over 50 cars in total.

The café exterior has a wonderfully grand scale.

For reference, Baedagol is said to mean “a village where boats arrive,” referring to this area of Deogyang-gu, Goyang. Step inside and an expansive garden opens up before you.

Unlike large cafés in the city, it felt truly quiet and peaceful, full of warmth.

The outdoor garden seating is quite spacious, with plenty of tables. The daytime sun is still rather hot, but it would be so nice to sit here and spend time once the days get a little cooler. There are so many plants that it almost feels like a botanical-garden café. Maybe that is why there were especially lots of mothers here, haha.

Baedagol Bakery House has two floors, plus a rooftop area outside the second floor. On the first floor, the huge windows gave me a full view of the garden outside.

It was not the ocean or some flashy sculpture, yet I think I watched the lush green plants filling the windows for ages without noticing time pass.

I highly recommend a window seat with a view of the garden! The second floor was full, so I could not take photos, but it also had quite a lot of tables.

This is the second-floor rooftop. If it had been just a little less hot, I would have sat here... totally my style... 🫧

Showcase breads and seasonal melon menu

True to its name, Bakery House had an incredible variety of breads: Gongju chestnut bread, garlic bread, ciabatta, sandwich loaves, salt bread, cakes, and more.

First, I loved that the bread was displayed inside showcases. At many large cafés, bread is simply left out in the open, which always makes me feel a little uneasy when eating it. Baedagol Bakery House’s desserts felt hygienically managed, so I could choose with more peace of mind. The drinks are also reasonably priced, and you can choose one of four specialty coffee beans.

It is currently melon season, with melon latte, melon ade, melon smoothie, and melon bingsu for sale.

What I ordered and how it tasted

  • Iced Americano (J Brown)
  • Six-clove garlic bread
  • Fruit Basque cheesecake
  • Fresh melon “Warrureu” bingsu (shaved ice)

Large Goyang café

First, the coffee made with J Brown, a bean with a soft flavor, was nutty and smooth going down. Because it was made with specialty beans rather than ordinary cheap beans, the depth of flavor was clearly different.

I had sworn I would stop eating bread on weekends... but this bread-loving girl’s eyes went wide at the sight of it 👀

I had been craving garlic bread lately, and Baedagol Bakery House happened to have it, so I picked one up.

Mini oven for warming bread

Baedagol Bakery House has a mini oven for warming your bread!! Garlic bread absolutely has to be warmed up to taste good. It was loaded with cream cheese, so there was no way it could taste bad, haha. And the fruit Basque cheesecake was just so pretty to begin with!

Does anyone remember the cheesecake sold at old-school bakeries? This was exactly the cheesecake flavor I had missed. Baedagol’s cheesecake had rich cheese flavor, somewhere between dense and soft, and it was perfect with coffee.

Next, melon bingsu! It had been such a long time since I last had melon bingsu. First of all, I loved that there was a whole heap of melon.. 🍈

Even without pouring on condensed milk, the melon itself was sweet enough and delicious. And the combination with the ice cream on top was perfect!!!! If you visit Baedagol Bakery House, I definitely recommend trying the bingsu.

A Wondang café for relaxing while looking at the garden

I think Baedagol Bakery House is a café with the wonderful appeal of not only delicious bread and coffee, but also a spacious, relaxing place where you can rest while looking at a pretty garden. If you are looking for a large café with great atmosphere in Goyang or nearby Gyeonggi, I recommend Baedagol Bakery House.
