Location near Baekseok Station and visitor information

Location information for Dokbul Janggun near Baekseok Station

It is just a one-minute walk from Exit 6 of Baekseok Station, so getting there was easy. Parking is available if you are driving as well; I was told to park on the road near Baekseok-dong Church, so keep that in mind. Corkage is also available, so it seemed like a nice option if you want to bring a bottle of wine or whiskey for a special occasion.

Exterior, terrace, and indoor atmosphere

Dokbul Janggun exterior in a residential alley

It is in a residential alley across from Goyang Bus Terminal and Homeplus Ilsan. Once you enter the alley, the restaurant comes into view, so it was not difficult to find.

Dokbul Janggun visitor information

Dokbul Janggun Ilsan Baekseok Branch is pet-friendly, but pets need to be on a leash or in a carrier and must not disturb nearby diners. There are not that many restaurants in Ilsan where you can dine with your dog, so I thought this was worth noting.

Round tables inside Dokbul Janggun

Several round tables inside made it look suitable for a date or a meal for two, and there were also larger tables for small groups. It can accommodate up to 50 people, and company dinners or private bookings are possible too.

Terrace space for enjoying the outdoor air

As the weather gets nicer, I find myself looking for restaurants with that outdoor drinking-stall atmosphere more often. There is a terrace here, so I could eat meat while enjoying the fresh air. It would be especially nice for visitors dining with their dogs.

My experience with the Dokbul 72-hour-aged Jeju platter

Jeju pork special-cut menu selection

Dokbul Janggun's main menu is a 600g platter of Jeju pork aged for 72 hours, and it was a satisfying amount even for two people. They also have yukhoe (Korean beef tartare), plus individual items such as five-layer pork belly and pork skin alongside the special cuts. You can order kkodeulsal, bolhangjeong, and nakyeopsal separately too, so it would be nice to choose whichever cuts you prefer.

Special cuts available as individual orders

Delivery and takeaway are available, and I was told that you can mix and match meat and stew in an order. Those living around Ilsan may want to keep that in mind.

Delivery and takeaway ordering information

There were soju and beer, of course, as well as highballs and cocktails. You can bring wine or whiskey with corkage, which costs ₩10,000.

Alcohol and corkage information

The side dishes included house-made water kimchi, cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), roasted glasswort salt, shredded scallion, galchi sokjeot (salted hairtail innards), pickled chili strips, wasabi, garlic, and ssamjang (seasoned dipping paste).

They said the water kimchi is made in-house. It was cool, tangy, and lightly sweet, making it great for refreshing my palate between bites of meat. The galchi sokjeot gave the meal a real Jeju feel too.

Complimentary cheonggukjang

I heard that cheonggukjang comes as a basic item at every table. Its aroma was not overly strong, so it was easy to eat, and it had plenty of ingredients—perfect for mixing with rice. So I immediately ordered two bowls of rice.

What comes on the 600g special-cut platter

The Dokbul 72-hour-aged Jeju platter, 600g, costs ₩56,000. It is a platter of special cuts from top-grade Jeju pork: 200g of kkodeulsal, 200g of bolhangjeong, and 200g of nakyeopsal.

Recommended order for eating the special cuts

The recommended eating order was written in large letters on one wall, and that made it feel like a place that takes its meat seriously. They recommend starting with kkodeulsal, followed by bolhangjeong and then nakyeopsal.

Kkodeulsal cut and its recommended order

First, kkodeulsal is a cut from the back of the neck with a pleasantly chewy bite. Its distinctive springy texture made the flavor of the pork come through more and more as I chewed.

Kkodeulsal with a springy texture

Bolhangjeong combines cheek meat and pork jowl in one serving, so I could experience a different texture from each part. Its nutty richness was especially appealing.

Bolhangjeong and nakyeopsal special cuts

Nakyeopsal is a lean, clean-tasting cut with a tender texture, located between the neck and back meat. After the kkodeulsal and bolhangjeong, having nakyeopsal last made for a light, neat finish.

Honeycomb pork skin receipt-review offer

They give you honeycomb pork skin when you write a receipt review—what a generous perk! It would be nice as a palate-cleansing finish or dessert.
