Gijang outlet restaurant with kung pao chicken pilaf: Bueokgan

In short

Bueokgan Restaurant is a European-style restaurant at Shinsegae Simon Busan Premium Outlets in Gijang, Busan. After shopping, I tried pepperoni pizza, carbonara, and 22,000 won kung pao chicken pilaf. The spicy-sweet pilaf made a perfect partner for the rich cream pasta.

Lunch with pizza, pasta, and pilaf

Tableware set on the table

Once seated, the neatly set tableware immediately made me feel well looked after—just like a proper restaurant, haha. At last, all three dishes arrived!! The salty, crisp pepperoni pizza; the deeply rich, thick, nutty carbonara; and kung pao chicken pilaf, with a huge whole chicken leg on top of spicy-sweet fried rice—these three dishes with such different charms were perfectly balanced together!!

Whenever the richness typical of Western food might have started to feel a little heavy, the spice of the pilaf and the saltiness of the pizza cut right through the weight of the cream pasta. I could keep going without getting tired of it right through the last bite, haha.

Pepperoni pizza

Crisp, salty pepperoni pizza

The pepperoni pizza was the first thing to catch my eye!! It arrived at the table freshly baked, and that nutty, salty pizza aroma really hit my nose!!!

When I took a huge bite, I first got the crisp outside and chewy inside of the dough, followed by the salty, spicy flavor of pepperoni spreading all through my mouth!! There was loads of cheese too, so the nutty flavor was no joke, and even the crust edges were crisp—I cleaned the whole thing up, haha.

Carbonara with a thick cream sauce

The carbonara pasta I tried next was truly the essence of a thick, rich sauce!! There was plenty of sauce, yet it was intensely rich and coated the noodles beautifully, haha. The nutty cream sauce and the sharp fragrance of whole black pepper came together so well that I couldn’t help but be impressed!!

It was packed with salty bacon and chewy mushrooms, so even the texture alongside the noodles was amazing, haha. Load up a forkful and soak it in the sauce, and Bueokgan Restaurant’s carbonara makes that nutty flavor burst across your whole mouth—you really have to try it!!!

Kung pao chicken pilaf topped with a whole chicken leg

The highlight of this meal, and the dish that completely won my heart, was the kung pao chicken pilaf, haha.

A large plate was covered with spicy fried pilaf, topped with an enormous grilled whole chicken leg—the presentation was seriously overwhelming!! When I picked up the chicken with tongs and pulled it apart, I was amazed at how tender it was; it shredded so easily along the grain, haha. Kung pao’s signature spicy-sweet special sauce coated every grain of rice beautifully, so every bite was an explosion of savory flavor!!

Tear off a big piece of chicken, gently place it on the fried rice, and take a generous spoonful—pure happiness in your mouth, haha. Its touch of spice was the perfect combination for cutting through the richness of the pizza and cream pasta!
