Hanam Misa restaurant for a solo seafood rice-crust soup: O Hyeongje

In short

O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch is a nurungjitang (rice-crust soup) specialist at 616-1 Misa-daero in Hanam, Gyeonggi. The writer ordered the seafood nurungjitang and the fresh-tenderloin tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), had the broth poured over the rice crust at the table, and found no trace of the stale-oil smell that often comes with fried rice crust. O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang works equally well for a solo nourishing meal or a family gathering of up to 30 people.

A rice-crust soup specialist near Gyeongjeong Park in Hanam Misa

There are so many good restaurants around Hanam Misa Gyeongjeong Park, and O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang caught my eye as I walked by! I'd never been to a place that specializes in nurungjitang (rice-crust soup) before, so I went in half-excited, half-curious. I fell for the generous portions and the clean, deep flavor — and then fell all over again for the friendly service and the spotless dining room!

This was honestly the best I've ever eaten nurungjitang! 😁 The meal was sponsored, but I'm putting this on my must-return list, no question 👍 Definitely recommend bringing your family here.

Neatly arranged dining room seating

The dining room was really neatly arranged, and I kept seeing staff tidying the self-bar — they clearly care a lot about cleanliness. My favorite part!

Basic side dishes set out at the self-bar

Self-serve side bar: dongchimi, green onion kimchi and chwinamul

The side dishes were honestly the kicker — they look like ordinary banchan (side dishes), but the quality was on a whole other level, I was speechless. Sharp yet clean donchimi (watery radish kimchi), green onion kimchi that really wakes up your appetite, and chwinamul (aster scaber) seasoned greens I wanted to take home with me.

These delicious, neatly prepared side dishes can all be refilled at the self-bar, and there's even fruit ready for dessert.

Seafood nurungjitang: broth poured over the rice crust at the table

My ordered seafood nurungjitang arrives! O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang actually has all kinds of nurungjitang menus — mung bean abalone, maesaengi (seaweed) abalone, jeongabok, seafood abalone — but whenever I try a place for the first time, I always go with the basic order first!

When the nurungjitang comes out, they pour the broth right in front of you — a flashy little show haha. Just looking at it is filling, and I couldn't help but let out an impressed gasp.

No stale-oil smell from the fried rice crust

Honestly, anyone who's eaten nurungjitang before knows exactly what I mean — sometimes the rice crust has that stale-oil smell. That's the part I'm most sensitive to, and O Hyeongje had none of it at all, so it passed my test right away!

On top of that, the seafood had zero fishy taste or smell, and the ginkgo nuts and vegetables were all clearly fresh — of course it tastes good 👍

A full earthenware pot of solo-size nourishing nurungjitang
A spoonful of seafood nurungjitang lifted up

It's such a full, generous bowl for a solo boyangsik (nourishing meal) that I wondered if it was almost too much — but honestly, once you start eating, the incredible flavor keeps pulling the spoon back to your mouth and I couldn't stop myself haha.

A spoonful of nurungjitang showing the seafood's sweetness

That sweetness you only get from truly fresh seafood, you know? It really sits easy in your mouth, and combined with the rice crust — never hard, never oily-smelling — my stomach felt completely comfortable even after finishing it all :)

A plate of the ordered fresh tenderloin tangsuyuk

Fresh-tenderloin tangsuyuk, with the leftovers packed to go

I debated between the mini size and the regular, but ended up ordering the fresh tenderloin tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) outright — and I'm so glad I did!

This is insane! You really have to try it.

It's clearly deep-fried, yet there's no greasiness or toughness — chewy on the bite, and the tenderloin inside is soft!! It'd been a long time since I had genuinely great tangsuyuk like this ✨ The portion was small enough that I couldn't finish it, but there was no way I was leaving any behind, so I took it home (+₩500 container fee).

Orange served as dessert

Finished off with orange for dessert to cleanse the palate, and coffee for anyone who wants it. Great as a solo boyangsik meal, but truly excellent for a family gathering too!!

Table after finishing the nurungjitang meal

If you want to properly try nurungjitang in Hanam, go straight to O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang! A restaurant that holds its own whether you're there solo for a nourishing meal or with the whole family.
