Danyang café garlic-shaped fruit desserts: JB Coffee

In short

JB Coffee is a café in Danyang, Chungbuk, serving playful desserts inspired by the region’s garlic specialty. We shared banana, melon, and strawberry Maneurin Jul Arat Danyang desserts, then poured over the accompanying espresso. Verdict: the sweet fruit flavors and unexpected espresso pairing made this a memorable Danyang stop.

I stopped by JB Coffee (제이비커피) while traveling in Danyang.

JB Coffee exterior in Danyang

From the outside, I thought it would be a small café, but once inside, I found the space divided across the first and second floors.

There is outdoor seating too, so on a nice day it looked like a lovely place to relax outside over a coffee. 🌿

The first thing that caught my eye as soon as I walked in was...

the figures and collections filling every corner of the café!

All sorts of character figures were on display, and there were even individual sneakers exhibited along one side.

It felt like the owner’s love of figures came through exactly as it is, and browsing while we waited for coffee was surprisingly fun.

It had a personality quite different from the usual aesthetic café, with plenty of spots for photos too. 📸

Ordering three Maneurin Jul Arat Danyang flavors

What we ordered was JB Coffee’s signature menu item, “Maneurin Jul Arat Danyang” (“I Thought It Was Garlic, Danyang”)!

Maneurin Jul Arat Danyang signature dessert

There were three of us, so we ordered one each in banana, melon, and strawberry flavors.

Banana, melon, and strawberry desserts

Lining up the three plump, garlic-shaped desserts in yellow, pale green, and pink was already unbelievably cute.

Garlic-shaped fruit-flavored desserts

The idea of turning Danyang’s local specialty, garlic, into a dessert was fun in itself.

It looks like garlic, but tastes like sweet fruit!

It looks like garlic to anyone! So before tasting it, I wondered, “Will it smell like garlic?” But one bite later, it was a total surprise. Haha.

Sweet fruit-flavored dessert

Instead of garlic, it had a sweet fruit flavor. Banana, melon, and strawberry all tasted different, so having three people order one each and share them made comparing them even more fun. What you see and what you taste are completely different, which is probably why this menu stayed with me from the Danyang trip.

Pouring on espresso brought another surprise ☕️

Espresso and Maneurin Jul Arat Danyang

And Maneurin Jul Arat Danyang comes with an espresso. It was delicious on its own, but when I poured the espresso over the dessert... oh? Why does this go together so well?

Dessert served with espresso

The espresso’s pleasant bitterness joined the sweet fruit flavor and balanced the sweetness, so I kept reaching for more. It was like an affogato, yet not quite an affogato—a strangely charming combination!

Espresso paired with fruit-flavored dessert

Personally, I recommend trying it plain first, then pouring on the espresso and trying it again. 👍

Dessert resting on garlic-shaped chocolates

Oh! And this is not garlic~~ It looked so much like garlic to me too, but there were garlic-shaped chocolates underneath as well, haha.

JB Coffee’s memorable Danyang-style fun

JB Coffee garlic-shaped dessert

JB Coffee was more than a café where you simply drink coffee and leave—it was a place to experience some distinctly Danyang-style fun. From the playful garlic-inspired visuals and the surprise of sweet fruit flavors to the unusual way of pouring over espresso! There was also the fun of looking around the interior, filled with the owner’s tastes in figure and sneaker collections.

If you visit with several people, it would be nice to order one of each flavor and share them as we did. If you are looking for a Danyang café with a menu that will stay in your travel memories more than an ordinary dessert, give JB Coffee’s Maneurin Jul Arat Danyang a try. 🧄💕

Sweet dessert that looks like garlic

It looks like garlic but has a sweet, surprising flavor! That surprise is what made it even more memorable for me. 😊
