Changwon gukbap restaurant with takeout suyuk: Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap

In short

Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap is a gukbap (rice-and-soup) restaurant in Bukmyeon, Changwon, serving dwaeji gukbap (pork soup with rice) and suyuk baekban (boiled pork set meal). The writer and her husband ordered the pork gukbap at 10,000 won, the suyuk baekban at 13,000 won and mandu (dumplings) at 6,000 won, and liked the rich broth, the generous plate of suyuk and the freshly made kimchi. The suyuk at Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap was memorable enough to order as takeout for the next housewarming.

Why pork gukbap in Bukmyeon, Changwon on a chilly day?

The weather's getting chillier, and craving dwaeji gukbap (pork soup) right about now? That's the mark of a true foodie, right?! I went with my husband, our resident 'gukbap minister,' to Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap, well known as a pork soup spot in Bukmyeon, Changwon~!

Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap is near Bukmyeon Hot Springs, so it's also perfect for a lunch stop~♨️

They have a nice big 🅿️ parking lot too, which was so convenient!!

We arrived around lunchtime, and customers started trickling in one by one :) The interior was clean and pleasant✨ Everyone seemed to know it's a Bukmyeon gukbap must-visit~ No wonder! Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap has been standing strong for 10 years.

Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap uses domestic ingredients, and takeout is available, just so you know~

The side dishes came out in a nice variety — of course there was freshly made kimchi and chive muchim (seasoned side dish), but they also had kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) and homemade gangdoenjang (thick soybean paste stew), which was a nice surprise! Crisp lettuce came standard too, so honestly you could fill up just wrapping it with gangdoenjang~~

The self-serve bar where you can grab extra side dishes was kept spotless, which I really appreciated hygiene-wise :)

Had to snap a group shot first~~~

Rich pork gukbap and a generous suyuk baekban

Pork soup (₩10,000) was what my husband ordered🐷 He insisted you have to go with the classic at a gukbap place~~ Our 'gukbap minister' added seasoned chives, salted shrimp, and dadaegi (chili paste) to customize it just how he likes.

A bowl of pork soup (dwaeji gukbap)

A milky, rich broth packed generously with pork made for a hearty bowl at Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap🍚 It had no gamey smell, just a clean, savory flavor, and pairing it with salted shrimp really brought out the umami! Mixing the warm broth with rice made me feel full and satisfied all the way through❤️🔥

I ordered the suyuk baekban (₩13,000), and wow🤩 the amount of suyuk?! Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap really doesn't hold back. I get why it's a Bukmyeon lunchtime favorite👍🏻

A generous serving of suyuk from the suyuk baekban

The suyuk was boiled without any gamey smell, clean and soft🐷 The lean meat was moist and tender, while the fatty parts had a chewy, satisfying bite with a clean yet savory flavor~ It was so good I wanted to pack just the suyuk for the next housewarming!

Wrapping it in the gangdoenjang from the side dishes was absolute heaven⚱️ And don't even get me started on the pickled onions~~ We got to enjoy the suyuk with a variety of wraps including pickled radish strips too, which made it even better🥬

Eating suyuk wrapped with gangdoenjang

Even the gukbap that came standard with the suyuk baekban had a decent amount of pork in it, so I genuinely almost burst🤤 Such a great value suyuk baekban~~ Even if you come alone for lunch in Bukmyeon, Changwon, you can enjoy a generous and varied meal, which I think makes it even better.

Fresh geotjeori kimchi and mandu at Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap

The crown jewel of any gukbap restaurant is the kimchi! The freshly made geotjeori (fresh unfermented kimchi) was totally my style, and the kkakdugi, seasoned with sweet radish, went so perfectly with the pork soup⭐️

Mandu (₩6,000). We had no idea how much suyuk we'd get and still ended up ordering mandu as a side^00^

Mandu, the side dish

The side dish held its own too — we thoroughly enjoyed the chewy dumpling skin~

As we finished up and headed out, they even had cool iced coffee ready — what a nice touch🧊 I'm smitten with Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap, the Bukmyeon favorite🤩

Free vegetables shared by Myeongin Dwaeji Gukbap

From the moment the owner greeted us kindly, I could feel it — even giving away vegetables grown in their own garden for free, that generosity came through clearly in the pork soup too. This Bukmyeon, Changwon favorite. Can't believe I only just discovered such a delicious pork soup place in Bukmyeon, Changwon~~ Next time friends visit from Seoul, I'm definitely bringing them here for pork soup :) The suyuk has a flavor and portion worthy of packing for a special occasion! I'll be back.
