Haedeun in Gwisan-dong, Changwon: a Western restaurant that looks good from the outside

Haedeun is a Western-style restaurant on Samgwi-ro 486beon-gil in Gwisan-dong, Seongsan-gu, Changwon. I went to a place with really pretty vibes in Gwisan — the building itself was so pretty I was excited before even walking in. There's Haedeun's own parking lot, but when I went it was full, so I parked in a separate lot nearby! My mom said that lot also seemed to belong to Haedeun haha.

Inside Haedeun: white and ivory tones with solid wood furniture

1. Since I visited on a rainy day, the interior looked even more atmospheric.

The interior was mostly done in white and ivory tones!

The warmth of the wood furniture combined with the freshness of the plants gave it an even more natural, vintage feel. There were also black chairs, and they matched the wood tables really cleanly. They gave a point of contrast to what could otherwise be a plain interior, making it stand out even more. There's a big table for group use, and especially since there are baby chairs, I thought it'd be fine to bring kids along too. There are also birthday perks, though I didn't get one — might be worth checking out if it's your birthday.

Haedeun's terrace feels like a garden

2. There's a separate outdoor space with a different charm from the interior.

If the interior is a clean wood tone, the terrace uses plants to create a small, almost mysterious garden-like atmosphere. They laid artificial turf widely across the floor, making a very different mood from a typical concrete tile floor. The lush flooring connected with the surrounding potted plants made the whole terrace look like one garden. The white table inside the terrace was also so pretty — I think sitting there eating pasta on a nice day would feel like being in a fairy tale.

The menu is ordered via QR code — each item shows a photo and price right away, which felt more convenient to me than a paper menu. Seeing a photo of the food made it easier to choose too. Also, if you pay and take your receipt straight up to the café above, you get 10% off — good to know if you like coffee.

I ordered the Sunshine cream pasta, beef tomato risotto, and orange calamansi ade!

Sunshine cream pasta, 17,800 won

As the signature dish, the Sunshine cream pasta was thick and creamy! The rich cream base paired with the chewy noodles made for an amazing flavor! There wasn't much of that heavy, greasy taste cream sometimes has, so I could recommend it even to people who don't handle richness well. Toppings like bacon and mushroom shoots blended with the sauce and were so delicious — one bite in, I understood why it's the signature dish. The pasta was really thick and creamy in particular, so I'd strongly recommend it to anyone who likes that texture like me!

Beef tomato risotto, 18,500 won

I saw the beef tomato risotto on the menu and immediately thought, this is it!! It has a spice level up to 2, and since we sat near the kitchen, the spicy smell from cooking drifted all the way to our table. I'm not great with spicy food so I was worried, but it turned out less spicy than expected — just slightly spicy, which I liked even more. Being beef tomato risotto, eating the beef and tomato toppings together made it even better. The beef in particular wasn't tough at all, which made the dish even more satisfying.

Orange calamansi ade, 4,000 won

The orange calamansi ade had a light hint of carbonation. Drinking it right after a big bite of the thick pasta, before your throat got heavy, was a perfect match. The orange flavor came through strongly, so it felt like it might even be good for you. Ades are often half ice, but this one had more drink than I expected, which I liked.

The side dishes that paired well with Haedeun's pasta

I especially liked the side dishes. I don't usually eat side dishes when having Western food, but my mom said they were so good I tried them — and they really did go well with the pasta! They cut through what could've been a heavy, greasy dish, so I ended up enjoying the meal even more.

Is Haedeun in Gwisan-dong worth a visit? Final verdict

I went to Haedeun, a spot in pretty Gwisan-dong that has the taste to match. It'd be great for group gatherings, and I thought it'd also be lovely for a date. The wood-toned interior and lighting were really pretty for photos too. If you want thick, creamy pasta, spicy risotto, and other delicious Western dishes, I recommend Haedeun!
