Perilla oil pickle and tomato kimchi at Namyangju BBQ: 2002 Witch's

In short

2002 Witch's Arpeggio is an open-air pork belly BBQ restaurant beside a mountain creek in Wabu-eup, Namyangju, Gyeonggi, known for its house-made tomato-jang. On a family visit with parents booked through Catch Table, the table shared one serving of cheese pork belly and two regular servings, plus perilla leaf oil pickle, tomato kimchi, tomato-jang kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) and a stone-pot pollock roe fried rice to finish. With the sound of the water beside the table, 2002 Witch's Arpeggio works well as a family meal or a drive-out day trip from Seoul.

Hi everyone!! My friend has been recommending 2002 Witch's Arpeggio to me for ages, so I finally went with high expectations ><

Witch's Arpeggio has a valley stream so it's cool in summer, and now with the crisp autumn breeze it seems perfect for a drive out! Being in the mountains means you can feel autumn in the mountains too... plus the food's good — total two birds one stone 👍🏻

Parking and booking 2002 Witch's Arpeggio: seating from 11am via Catch Table

2002 Witch's Arpeggio has plenty of parking, and the moment you see the terrace you just go wow~~ It'll probably be even more atmospheric once autumn arrives!

You can enter from 11am and need a Catch Table reservation. The 2nd floor is cool too, and while you wait you can look at the creek and the fall foliage. I got lucky and was seated right away!

Eating meat while actually hearing the sound of water flowing... isn't that just so good? A view you can't get in the city — my parents loved it too haha

The house-made tomato-jang, with crates of tomatoes beside it

They said Witch's Arpeggio's seasoning is made from their own developed tomato-jang (tomato sauce)! Beside it were piles of tomatoes and jars of aged tomato-jang lined up.

They give you a stone-pot pollock roe fried rice if you write a review, so of course you have to write one?? You really have to eat it... remember to save room for the fried rice at the end!!!

My dad was so surprised he asked if they sold the tomatoes too haha, apparently they don't sell them haha

How to eat tomato-jang pork belly in the right order

First, let me tell you the best order for enjoying 2002 Witch's Arpeggio's tomato-jang pork belly!

  • Try it plain first
  • Try it with cheese
  • Try wrapping it in the rice cracker too
  • With gim (seaweed) and pickled radish
  • Organic wrap vegetables!!

We ordered 1 cheese and 2 regular, and I loved that bean sprouts came out too, and I loved that they grilled it for us directly...

Perilla leaf oil pickle, tomato kimchi, tomato-jang kalguksu and japchae

And I tried perilla leaf oil pickle and tomato kimchi for the first time and they were so delicious!! Especially the tomato kimchi, you can't even imagine it... so good!!! My mom said it seemed healthy and had two helpings haha

And they gave us the rice cracker to prep~~

Believe it or not, the tomato-jang kalguksu (noodle soup) has no gochujang in it at all... so strange, but it still had a spicy taste??!!!

Oh!! And this japchae (glass noodle stir-fry)!!! Warm and we finished it before the meat even arrived haha. You could feel the care put into every single side dish..!

The fire show, the melted cheese and the best wrap combination

At the end came the fire show~~~

And they put cheese on top too, isn't the visual insane??? My parents were so-so on the cheese at first haha, but later they said the cheese was delicious and dug in even more eagerly haha

At first I tried wrapping it in the rice cracker! Chewy, a different kind of delicious!! That perilla leaf oil-jang is the key!

The best combo was lettuce, pickled radish, and perilla leaf oil pickle wrapped together — this is the fundamental combo haha. The meat is soft and the seasoning soaks right in, so I highly recommend it haha

Also, the self-serve bar has garlic and pickled onions, so make sure to go grab some!! I love pickled onions and it was even better eaten together haha

Highly recommend the combo of pickled radish, pickled onion, and perilla leaf oil pickle!!!

Finishing with stone-pot pollock roe fried rice, timed by an hourglass

And for dessert we ordered the pollock roe fried rice right away, and you just wait until this hourglass runs out!!

Ta-da, my mouth is watering again just thinking about it ㅠㅠㅠㅠ It's already fully stir-fried when it arrives, so you just mix in gim and eat.. this fried rice!!

Have you ever seen a visual like this... I want to eat it again already!!!

If you get extra gim and wrap it up, you'll keep eating without stopping haha

We even scraped up all the crispy scorched rice at the bottom. So glad we enjoyed it that much and ate it all up haha

Seats by the autumn creek: feet in the water, fall colors overhead

FYI, 2002 Witch's Arpeggio also has tables inside~~ and there's a terrace-style setup both inside and outside, so keep that in mind!!

Opened in 2002 and still loved to this day, Witch's Arpeggio!!!

The valley view with autumn foliage starting to appear

After finishing everything, I dipped my feet in once and it was so refreshing~~ Can you already see the fall foliage~~?? Highly recommend it as a Namyangju autumn drive combined with a family meal or date spot!!!
