24-hour Korean BBQ near Nonhyeon Station, Seoul: makchang at Cheongmi

In short

Cheongmi Dolpan Samgyeopsal is a 24-hour Korean BBQ restaurant about a 10-minute walk from Exit 7 of Nonhyeon Station in Seocho, Seoul. On a lunch visit the writer ordered Cheongmi samgyeopsal (pork belly), pre-grilled raw Daegu makchang (pork intestine), bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) and dwaeji kkeopdak (pork skin), and the sauce served with the makchang stood out most. The stone griddle holds strong heat and keeps the meat warm until the last bite, making Cheongmi Dolpan Samgyeopsal a solid pick for makchang lovers.

Hi everyone! I came to Cheongmi Dolpan Samgyeopsal, a makchang (beef intestine) spot near Nonhyeon Station. I'd always noticed the blue sign passing by, and this was my first time actually eating here!!

A Seoul BBQ spot that's packed every evening

I remember whenever I passed by after work in the evening, the place was always full of customers. Lots of customers means it's good!

We went for lunch and could eat comfortably. There's no break time, so you can go and eat whenever you want.

Where Cheongmi Dolpan Samgyeopsal is and why 24-hour opening helps

Cheongmi Dolpan Samgyeopsal is located at 22 Sinbanpo-ro 47-gil, Seocho-gu, Seoul, and it's open 24 hours. That makes it even better, haha. It's about a 10-minute walk from Exit 7 of Nonhyeon Station, so it's also easy to reach by public transport.

Inside Cheongmi Dolpan Samgyeopsal: old-school retro dining room

Interior of Cheongmi Dolpan Samgyeopsal with an old-school restaurant atmosphere

When you come to Cheongmi Dolpan Samgyeopsal, you get an old-school neighborhood restaurant vibe. It makes for a more relaxed atmosphere to eat in, and I imagine coming during the busy evening hours would make that old-school feeling even stronger.

What side dishes come with the meal? Myeongi greens and pa-kimchi

A plate of fresh vegetables served alongside the meal

The side dishes and vegetables come out like this. The vegetables were very fresh, and I especially liked the green onion kimchi and wild garlic leaves here, haha.

I grilled the bean sprouts and bracken fern while eating the meat, and maybe because it's a stone griddle, the heat is so strong that they cooked quickly and tasted great, haha.

Why you should order the makchang at Cheongmi Dolpan Samgyeopsal

Ordered pork belly and pre-grilled raw daegu makchang laid out
  • Cheongmi samgyeopsal (pork belly)
  • Pre-grilled raw daegu makchang (beef intestine)
  • Bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles)
  • Dwaeji kkeopdak (pork skin)

This is what we ordered. The makchang was genuinely delicious. Certified best makchang spot near Nonhyeon Station, haha.

Meat cooking on the heated stone griddle

Maybe because it's a stone griddle, once the pan heats up, everything cooks really fast. It cooks quickly, but even with the fire on, the stone griddle doesn't cool down quickly, so the meat stayed warm until we finished eating, haha. That made it taste even better, lol.

How generous are the meat portions?

Generous portions of meat with minari

When you come to this makchang spot near Nonhyeon Station, the makchang comes pre-grilled, so while the pork belly and kkeopdak are still cooking, the makchang cooks fast and you can eat it first while the pork belly finishes.

And the minari (water dropwort) served alongside was great. Personally I'm not a fan of minari's scent, but grilled instead of raw, it was so tasty. It felt like the minari cut through the richness you'd get from eating only meat.

The makchang sauce is the highlight at Cheongmi Dolpan Samgyeopsal

Makchang sauce served with the makchang order

When you order makchang, you get a makchang sauce, and this is genuinely the kicker. It's delicious with anything you dip in it, not just the makchang. Even just mixed into rice, it's tasty~~

The makchang sauce plays a big role in how enjoyable the meal is. When you come to this makchang spot near Nonhyeon Station, I think the sauce makes it feel even tastier than the makchang itself, haha.

Free doenjang jjigae served with rice orders

This is the rich doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) that comes free when you order rice. The broth is really thick and rich — totally my style!

Bibim naengmyeon, the must-order side with grilled pork

Bibim naengmyeon ordered alongside the grilled meat
A mixed bowl of bibim naengmyeon

I seem to always order naengmyeon (cold noodles) when eating grilled meat. I'm too full to have it as dessert, so I always order it alongside the meat, and it's delicious together. I'm team bibim naengmyeon (spicy) over mul naengmyeon (broth)!

A stone griddle packed end to end

Stone griddle packed full of meat

When you put all the ordered meat on, the whole griddle is packed full. As mentioned above, the makchang comes pre-grilled, so it cooks much faster than the other items.

It's been a while since I had makchang, and it lived up to expectations. The pork belly is good too, but the makchang here is genuinely delicious!

How much makchang do you get in one serving?

A generous single serving of makchang

When you come to this makchang spot near Nonhyeon Station, the portions are generous too. We ordered one serving and got a lot. After cutting it up, I was like, is this really just one serving? Lol.

Crispy outside, tender inside — that's what makchang is all about, lol. I should've had a beer, but since I stepped out from work I couldn't drink... If you're coming for a work dinner or can drink, definitely have a drink with it. I feel like it would've been even more delicious...T.T

A press for the pork skin comes with the order

Pork skin tends to curl up while cooking over the fire, so they give you a press to prevent that, haha. Thanks to it, we could cook it evenly all around, and also avoid it splattering!!

Soybean powder, the classic dip for dwaeji kkeopdak

When you order kkeopdak (pork skin), they give you soybean powder too — soybean powder really is the standard pairing for pork skin, lol.

Dipped in the sauce, the makchang disappears quickly in your mouth, haha. Cut it into bite-sized pieces and enjoy!

Bibim naengmyeon is eaten together with the pork belly, lol. The noodles balance out the richness right away, lol.

Wrapping up lunch at Cheongmi Dolpan Samgyeopsal

I came to Cheongmi Dolpan Samgyeopsal, the makchang spot near Nonhyeon Station, and had a great time eating makchang after a long while. If you're visiting Nonhyeon Station, I think you'll have a satisfying meal here too :)
