Charcoal chicken neck scorched rice porridge set for two: Sugyeokok
In short
Sugyeokok Bundang Migeum is a dak hanmari (whole chicken hot pot) and chicken neck scorched rice porridge restaurant on Migeum-il-ro in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. On a weekday lunch visit with a friend, the writer ordered the 36,000 won set for two, which includes chicken neck scorched rice porridge, dak hanmari and kalguksu noodles, and found the broth clean and deep with no MSG aftertaste and the charcoal-scented chicken neck porridge the standout. Portions at Sugyeokok are so generous that the kalguksu was left untouched.

Aloha~ Here's a spot I keep coming back to because the rich broth just won't leave my mind. I went for lunch with a friend after a while, and the moment she tasted the broth, she couldn't stop raving about it. No MSG flavor at all, just clean, deep broth — this is Sugyeokok Bundang Migeum, a must-visit restaurant near Migeum in Bundang!
How long is the weekday lunch wait at Sugyeokok Bundang Migeum?

If you're looking for a hearty meal near Migeum Station, Sugyeokok Bundang Migeum can't be skipped. I visited during weekday lunch and it was much more relaxed compared to weekends. Thanks to booking ahead, I got seated right away without waiting. It's such a popular Korean restaurant near Migeum Station that it's always busy for both lunch and dinner, so I'd definitely recommend reserving in advance on Naver, especially for weekend visits.

Sugyeokok menu prices and the Naver timer event

Sugyeokok Bundang Migeum doesn't just serve great food — it also has fun events to spice up your meal. If you order dak hanmari for 2 or more, ask staff to pre-pay and write a Naver receipt review, and you'll get a free finishing egg porridge or a drink. You can also verify that you've saved the place on Naver to join the unique 'timer event' — stop the timer at exactly 10 seconds for a free potato pancake, or 7 seconds for spicy chicken salad, and even if you fail, you still get a drink. Definitely worth trying! It's also worth checking the à la carte and side menu prices on the order pad before you visit.
The signature chicken neck scorched rice porridge

We ordered the 2-person set (36,000 won) with chicken neck rice porridge, dak hanmari, and kalguksu (knife-cut noodles).
The first thing that moved us was this chicken neck rice porridge! Nutty, hot scorched rice porridge topped with plenty of charcoal-scented crumbled chicken neck meat and chopped green onion — mix it all together and take a bite, and it's genuinely a top-tier flavor that could beat anything out there. Even my friend, trying it for the first time, widened her eyes and scraped the bowl clean saying it was so good. A perfect delicacy that lives up to its reputation as a top restaurant in the Gumi-dong area.
Sugyeokok dak hanmari: clean, deep broth with no MSG

The main dish, dak hanmari (whole chicken hot pot), came generously packed with chicken, green onion, rice cakes, and potatoes. As it started bubbling, I tasted the broth first — it was so rich I wanted to pour it into a tumbler to take home. Completely free of that heavy MSG taste, just clean and deep, it felt like it cleared out all my worries.

Following the guide printed on the table, we made a special sauce by mixing cabbage, chili paste, minced garlic, soy sauce, and mustard. Pairing the chewy, well-cooked chicken breast and tender thigh meat with this tangy-spicy cabbage sauce, I couldn't put my chopsticks down.

There was also plenty of potato and rice cake sari (add-ons) to fish out, which was fun. We kept muttering 'this is protein~ this is diet food~' while eating away haha.
Too filling for the kalguksu noodles

The real finishing touch of dak hanmari is supposed to be the kalguksu noodles cooked in the leftover rich broth, right? But this time, my friend and I kept scooping up the chicken neck rice porridge and the dak hanmari nonstop and ended up way too full. The set portion is so generous and filling even for two adults that we sadly never made it to the noodles this time. So different from other dak hanmari places where you don't feel full without extra add-ons ~ that's another reason I love Sugyeokok! Next time I'll definitely pace myself and finish off with the kalguksu too!
If you're craving something hearty and warm these days and want a proper meal, definitely stop by. It was a perfect lunch that nailed taste, portion, and atmosphere all at once. Oh! And the owner being super kind is a nice bonus too!!!
