Namyangju outdoor BBQ with flying-fish-roe fried rice: 2002 Witch's

I was looking for a place near Seoul with a nice atmosphere and ended up somewhere a bit different this time 🍂 I'd heard there was a Namyangju restaurant with outdoor seating right next to a creek, so I went with my family.

Visit in the evening and it honestly feels like you're on a trip, so a lot of couples come here for dates too. Wondering where this is? We went to 2002 Witch's Arpeggio (2002 마녀의 아르페지오) in Namyangju — here's my honest review.

2002 Witch's Arpeggio is a creekside outdoor BBQ restaurant at 142 Suryero661beon-gil, Wabu-eup, Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi-do. It's open 11:00–21:00, with a break time of 15:30–17:00, last order at 20:00, and no regular closing day.

Even as the navigation kept guiding us there, it kept saying 'temple' the whole way and nothing looked like it was leading to a restaurant 😭 Half doubting it, we got to the parking lot, and the moment we saw the outdoor seating area — wow 👍🏻

The indoor space has a first and second floor, and apart from when it's too hot or cold, there's usually a wait for the outdoor tables. We waited a bit and got an outdoor seat 👧🏻 Looking around after we sat down, I saw a lot of couples, people with dogs, and families.

Menu and prices: what our family ordered

Witch's Arpeggio uses no gochujang (Korean red pepper paste) at all — the pork belly is jar-aged for 48 hours purely in tomato sauce.

These are the basic side dishes: wrap vegetables and pickled radish, seasoned tomato salad, pickled perilla leaves, acorn pancake, and gim (seaweed) — neatly presented.

How does the Witch's jar cheese tomato pork belly taste?

The Witch's jar cheese pork belly is ₩25,000 per serving; we ordered two servings. Freshly cooked, the tomato-jang pork belly came out in a generous portion with bean sprouts, mushrooms, and scallions, so it felt healthy — like it wouldn't make you gain weight 😎

At first we tried just the pork belly on its own, then with cheese, and it was so good we kept going back for more 👍🏻 The Witch's jar cheese pork belly, with thick-cut pork belly plus cheese, is definitely savory and soft.

Unlike regular pork belly, there's a subtle tangy-sweet flavor from the tomato sauce base, almost reminiscent of a tomato pasta. Following the recommended way, we wrapped it in vegetables and also in the acorn pancake — this place is officially a tomato-jang pork belly spot worth its reputation.

Stone-pot fried rice with flying fish roe, timed by a 5-minute hourglass

The stone-pot fried rice is ₩5,000. A staff member brought over a mini stone pot along with an hourglass, telling us the rice would be ready to eat once the 5 minutes were up.

With flying fish roe and cheese mixed into a special sauce, it was savory and salty with the added pop of the fish roe bursting in your mouth. We pressed down the little bit of rice left to make crispy scorched rice at the bottom 👍🏻

Tteokgalbi kids' set for 5,000 won

The tteokgalbi kids' set is ₩5,000, a great-value option with rice, gim, and tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty). Our kid finished dinner easily with this kids' set.

Tomato-jang kalguksu at 2002 Witch's Arpeggio

The Witch's tomato-jang kalguksu (noodle soup) is ₩15,000. The distinctive tangy, slightly spicy flavor of the tomato-jang blends well with the broth, giving it a taste that's a bit different from regular kalguksu.

The broth was rich but not heavy, with the umami of tomato adding a clean finish that was easier to eat than expected. It also worked well as a finishing dish after all the pork belly 😁

Honest verdict on 2002 Witch's Arpeggio

Overall, the atmosphere of eating at 2002 Witch's Arpeggio's outdoor seating by the creek was the best part. The tomato-jang pork belly had a tangy-sweet flavor that made it distinctly different from regular pork belly, and the flying-fish-roe fried rice and tomato-jang kalguksu were satisfying ways to finish the meal.

I'd recommend it for family dinners, and also as a Namyangju outdoor BBQ date spot if you like that kind of atmosphere.
