Hongdae café with square-ice americanos: Central Site Yeonnam

In short

Central Site Yeonnam is a three-floor hand-drip specialty café in Yeonnam-dong, Seoul, a short walk from Hongik Univ. Station. Colombia and Guatemala americanos were ordered iced and hot to compare how strong each one tasted, alongside the café's signature tiramisu. The iced cups came out stronger and the square ice cubes never watered them down, so Central Site Yeonnam is worth a stop for anyone who wants to taste the coffee itself.

Central Site Yeonnam: a three-floor café near Hongik Univ. Station

Exterior of Central Site Yeonnam café in Yeonnam-dong

Central Site Yeonnam is a hand-drip coffee café in Yeonnam-dong, not far from Hongik Univ. Station. It's close enough to the station that transit access is easy, and being right on the street makes it simple to find. I'd recommend it as a Yeonnam-dong date spot.

They run the whole building up to the third floor, so there are more tables than I expected and the atmosphere was nice too. It's popular as a date course, but surprisingly there were a lot of people studying with laptops. Plenty of customers even on a weekday.

Why go to Central Site Yeonnam? The hand-drip coffee

There are plenty of stylish, popular cafés around Hongdae and Yeonnam-dong, right? Among them, the reason you should visit Central Site is the hand-drip! It's a specialty shop carrying a wide range of beans, and it was great to be able to watch the whole process when you order.

They also sell tasty desserts that go well with coffee, and the tiramisu is the signature item. It looks delicious at first glance — a recommended dessert stop for a Yeonnam-dong tiramisu date course.

There are a huge number of bean options, but the staff explain everything kindly, so you can just describe your taste and they'll recommend the right coffee for you — no need to worry. Every coffee is made to order.

Bean introduction, aroma sampling and hand-drip at the bar

After ordering, wait just a bit and the staff at Central Site start by giving a brief introduction to the beans, then show you the aroma sampling and the hand-drip itself. It's not just one cup of coffee — you get to enjoy it visually and by smell too, which I think is why it's popular for dates or blind dates.

Once the hand-drip was finished, the staff carried the coffee to our table, so we could just relax and move to our seats. It felt totally different from the usual chain coffee experience — more like being served at a proper restaurant.

Inside Central Site Yeonnam: the second-floor window seats are best

You go up the stairs to reach the second floor at Central Site Yeonnam. There are seats on the first floor too, but the vibe on the second floor was better. The third floor feels like a rooftop, but personally I'd recommend the window seat on the second floor!

Every floor has chilled lemon water and tissues neatly set out. The tables were simple, but not uncomfortable at all.

Colombia vs Guatemala americano: the iced cup tastes stronger

Colombia / Guatemala americano + signature tiramisu

Quiet music was playing in the background, so the atmosphere was really nice. After a short wait, the staff brought it over — two cups of coffee and a dessert! The coffee quality is no joke, haha.

At Central Site, the americano comes out at a different strength depending on whether you order it iced or hot. The iced version is a bit stronger. Even as the ice melts, the flavor stays alive — they really seem serious about a single cup of coffee. There's a whole square ice cube in there, the kind you'd expect at a fancy whiskey bar.

You can clearly see the color difference between the two, right? I personally like Colombia, but the Guatemala was tasty too — the acidity isn't strong, so coffee enthusiasts would probably like it. Even after the square ice melts, the coffee's flavor doesn't go flat or change.

From first sip to last, you get to enjoy the coffee's true flavor and aroma. It felt like I'd found a good spot in an era when it's genuinely hard to find great-tasting coffee. They seem serious about even a single cup. Depending on the bean, they provide an info card too, which is a nice way to learn about the coffee you like.

How good is the signature tiramisu at Central Site Yeonnam?

Central Site's signature tiramisu is a soft tiramisu generously topped with chocolate. It's delicious enough to eat on its own, but pairing it with coffee makes it even better, right?

It has a rich, dense texture through and through, with a moist base, so the overall balance was good. Since the signature item was this appealing, I got curious about the other desserts too. They sell a wide variety of beans, so next time I plan to try a different combination!
