Mapo Bada Signature Table

I visited Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada, a newly opened restaurant in Daeheung-dong, Mapo. It's just 3 minutes from Daeheung Station, and I'd recommend it if you're looking for a place to enjoy fresh seafood in generous portions.

True to its name, Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada (제철담은 마포바다, "seasonal Mapo sea") is a seafood specialty restaurant that fills the table with a wide range of single dishes centered on seasonal seafood. It's a nice spot for a family meal, and with so many dishes to share, it also suits anyone looking for a Mapo dinner course for a work gathering.

The fish tanks out front and how well they're kept

Before I even stepped inside, the first thing that caught my eye was the variety of fish and seafood set up in the tanks in front of the restaurant.

One thing I personally check when visiting a seafood restaurant is how well the tanks are maintained, and these were kept clean, which naturally raised my expectations for the food.

An interior that works for families too

The interior overall had a clean, bright feel. Rather than feeling heavy or overly formal, it was comfortable for a family visit and just as easy for a group meal. If you're looking for a Daeheung-dong restaurant-and-bar that also works for family dinners, friend gatherings, or a work dinner, I think this is a solid option.

There was one more thing inside that stood out — the drinks fridge. It wasn't just soju and beer; there was a full lineup of wine, sake, and traditional Korean liquors.

Looking at the sake lineup in particular, I spotted names like Chokaisan and Dassai. There was also a liquor discount promotion posted, which is a nice bonus for anyone planning to pair their meal with a premium drink.

A table slid in whole, already laid out

Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada's motto is filling the table with single dishes made from seasonal ingredients. What's distinctive here is that instead of dishes coming out one by one as usual, they slide the entire already-laid table into place — it was a fun touch.

The visual of the whole spread appearing at once in front of you was striking.

What's in the Mapo Bada Signature Table

At first I honestly didn't know where to start. My chopsticks went back and forth for a while 😎

The Mapo Bada Signature Table I ordered came with a huge variety of dishes: salt-grilled shrimp, raw shrimp, gizzard shad sashimi (jeoneo hoe), a 4-type sashimi platter, grilled gizzard shad, an assorted seafood platter, cold pork (naeng jeyuk), tofu kimchi, octopus tangtangi (chopped raw octopus), abalone porridge, seaweed soup, and steamed egg — a generous spread of seasonal seafood and sides all together.

Looking through each dish, this wasn't just a table piled with a lot of variety for its own sake. Each dish had its own character, and the more I tried, the more I could tell care had gone into the food.

The sashimi was aged, giving it a soft texture and nutty flavor, and the shrimp were large enough to feel filling in the mouth with great texture.

With the fresh seafood platter, cold pork, and fried dishes all served together, the flavors kept shifting throughout the meal. What I liked most was being able to try so many different dishes in small amounts.

With the table so full, it naturally felt like being treated to something special. As you can see, the portions are substantial enough that 3–4 people could eat their fill, making it a good fit for group get-togethers or work dinners.

Seasonal salt-grilled shrimp and free shrimp-head grilling

Personally, the dishes that stuck with me most that day were the seasonal salt-grilled shrimp and the grilled shrimp heads 🦐🦐🦐

The sweetness of seasonal shrimp really came through, and they were medium-large or bigger, with a satisfying bite-sized richness and bouncy texture.

Some places charge extra for grilling shrimp heads, but at Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada, there's no such fee — just set the heads aside and they'll grill them for you. The distinct savory flavor of the shrimp heads, combined with the richness and saltiness of the salted butter, naturally made me want a beer 🍺

Who this Daeheung Station sashimi restaurant suits

After visiting Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada, I found it a place where you can enjoy a wide range of seasonal dishes and single-item specialties in one generous sitting. If you're looking for a Daeheung Station restaurant or sashimi place and want more than just raw fish — a variety of seafood and cooked dishes together — this fits the bill.

It's good for a filling family meal, good for drinks with friends, and well suited to group gatherings or work dinners. Above all, I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to feel properly treated while enjoying fresh seasonal seafood and a wide range of dishes piled onto one table.
