My friend came to Seoul early for a late-night escape room booking in Hongdae, so we needed somewhere to hang out beforehand — that's how we ended up at this large Hapjeong café, Seowon Angil Hapjeong (서원안길 합정)!

Seowon Angil Hapjeong, known for brunch and pasta, is close to Hapjeong Station Exit 3 — that exit has an escalator, which is such a win — and it's about a 4-minute walk.
The café takes up the 1st and 2nd floors of a large building on an uphill slope. Parking is available but limited to 3–4 spots, first come first served, so it seems best to call ahead before visiting.

They also sell cakes and sourdough bread. We came before mealtime, so only dessert was possible — sneaked in a slice of carrot cake.

What are the 1st and 2nd floors like inside?
Here's the interior of Seowon Angil Hapjeong. Even one floor alone is huge for a café, and you can use both the 1st and 2nd floors.
We visited after the 2nd floor's hours, so we only used the 1st floor. Even the 1st floor is raised like a 1.5th floor, so there were plenty of seats with nice views out the window.
Besides the window seats, there were plenty of tables further inside too, and the plant styling made it feel really relaxing.
At the self-serve bar, you could refill cold water and sauces like ketchup and hot sauce.
The restrooms at Seowon Angil Hapjeong were tucked in the very back, and they were spotlessly maintained — a clean, hotel-style restroom that would double perfectly as a photo spot.
Is it pet-friendly?
Seowon Angil Hapjeong is a pet-friendly café. Pets who have completed their 3rd round of vaccinations can come inside with you! They also have pet supplies on hand, so you can visit comfortably with your furry friend.
Drinks and carrot cake review
Haha, here's what we ordered — drinks and cake. After ordering, they hand you a buzzer and bring everything over once it's ready! From the left: decaf americano, vanilla bean latte, and carrot cake.
The decaf americano (7.0) had a nutty flavor without strong acidity. The vanilla bean latte (7.8) had just the right amount of vanilla bean syrup, which paired well with dessert. Even I, who's not much of a coffee drinker, could enjoy this one!
Here's the carrot cake at Seowon Angil Hapjeong. I've mentioned before that I order carrot cake wherever I see it, so naturally I had to try theirs!
At some cafés, the carrot cake base can be dry, but here at Seowon Angil Hapjeong the cake is so moist it's soft even on its own. The combination of cinnamon-scented cake with smooth cream cheese frosting kept coming to mind afterward 🥕 Definitely worth a try!
Final thoughts
Seowon Angil Hapjeong, home of that seriously delicious moist carrot cake! The lighting inside is soft, and the plants and wood interior give it a relaxed feel — I ended up chatting away with my friend for ages. It's a large Hapjeong café that somehow never gets noisy, which made it even better. If you're looking for a café near Hapjeong Station, I recommend this one 👍
