On a weekday Thursday, I went to Seongsu-dong with my wife. There are so many good places in Seongsu-dong, but that day I wanted something a bit special, so we headed to bd Burger Seongsu.

My wife and I ordered the BIG SIZE WASABI SHRIMP set and the GRILLED SHRIMP AVOCADO set. Sets come with fries and a drink, and the price varies depending on the drink. We swapped the default cola for a milkshake.

If you choose a carbonated drink like cola or sprite, you get one free refill, but milkshakes can't be refilled. Still, I'd heard so much about how good bd Burger's milkshake is that I picked it out of curiosity.

Big Size Wasabi Shrimp: what exactly is big about it?

I ordered bd Burger Seongsu's BIG SIZE WASABI SHRIMP set. Big size is right there in the name, and once it arrived, I understood why.

The bun size was the same as usual, but the filling was big size! Above all, the shrimp meat was seriously generous. Instead of the usual style with just one or two whole shrimp, this one gathers shrimp meat into a patty, so with every bite you really get that shrimp texture. There was so much shrimp meat that the springy, bouncy bite was great.

The combination of wasabi and shrimp worked better than I expected. Seafood and wasabi are already a great match, and that pairing carried through fully in the shrimp burger.

The wasabi wasn't so strong that it drowned out everything else — it was more just enough to bring out the shrimp's flavor, so it wasn't overwhelming, and the overall seasoning was just right for my taste.

The bun was also soft and decent quality, so the overall balance with the shrimp patty was good. If you're looking for a burger near Seongsu Station and want something other than the usual beef patty, this shrimp burger is a pretty excellent choice.

Big Size Wasabi Shrimp vs Grilled Shrimp Avocado: how the two burgers differ

My wife ordered bd Burger Seongsu's GRILLED SHRIMP AVOCADO set. It's a menu with flame-grilled whole shrimp and avocado, and it clearly had a different appeal from the wasabi shrimp I had. In particular, the avocado sandwiched inside gave it a light, moist texture with every bite. Having the bouncy shrimp together with the soft avocado made for an interesting contrast in textures too.

If you like spicy, tangy flavors, I'd recommend the wasabi shrimp I had; if you prefer something a bit lighter and softer, go for the grilled shrimp avocado my wife ordered.

Both center on shrimp but head in different flavor directions, so ordering one each with your partner and sharing is a good idea too.

Fried eggplant instead of fries: is the swap worth it?

The default side for the set at bd Burger Seongsu is fries, but that day I wanted to try something a little different, so I swapped it for eggplant fritters. Eggplant fritters aren't a common choice at a burger place, so I hesitated a bit, but it ended up exceeding expectations.

The batter was crispy and the eggplant inside was cooked soft, so the contrast in texture was great. The eggplant's naturally soft texture paired nicely with the crispy batter, and it worked well alongside the burger too.

If you like eggplant normally, this is a side worth ordering.

How the milkshake works with a shrimp burger

That day I chose a milkshake instead of cola for my drink. Unlike a carbonated drink, it paired quite well with the burger.

After a salty, savory shrimp burger, sipping the soft, sweet milkshake felt like it reset my palate. If you're looking for a burger restaurant near Seongsu Station and want to enjoy the sides and drink properly and not just the burger, try the milkshake too.

What stood out most about this bd Burger visit was, unsurprisingly, the wait. We showed up right at the 11:30am weekday Thursday opening and there were already customers, and by the time it approached noon, people had started lining up.

Seongsu-dong already draws a lot of people even on weekdays, but true to its reputation as a burger restaurant near Seongsu Station, the crowd built up fast as lunchtime hit. So if it's your first visit, timing it to opening like we did seems like a good approach.
