Suwon Korean restaurant family lunch: Gyewondang cold noodles

In short

Gyewondang Ingye Branch is a handmade chicken cutlet and chicken-dish restaurant in Ingye-dong, Suwon, Gyeonggi. Our family shared the icy cold chicken noodle set, Gyewon Set Meal, and 88's seasoned chicken, and even my child loved the tender cutlets and egg fried rice. A very satisfying meal for a family lunch or date.

While wondering what to eat with my child, we visited Gyewondang in Ingye-dong, Suwon. Eating out with a child always limits the menu choices, but this handmade chicken cutlet and chicken-dish restaurant was nearby, so we stopped in. In the end, it was a lunch that satisfied not only me and my child, but my husband too.

After being out in the blazing daytime sun, we headed in~~! Everything on the sidewalk sign looked so delicious.

Gyewondang Ingye-dong atmosphere and conveniences for children

The clean wood-tone interior had an atmosphere that worked well for both a date and a family meal. Each table had table ordering, so it was easy to order from our seats, and the little decor items around the restaurant seemed to add even more atmosphere. There was a decent amount of space between tables too, so we had a fairly private lunch.

The self-service bar has takeout containers for packing leftovers, side dishes, and children's tableware, which makes it so nice for families with children like ours.

Ordering the cold chicken noodle set, Gyewon Set Meal, and seasoned chicken

There were so many menu options that we debated and debated—then what did we order? The icy cold chicken noodle set, the Gyewon Set Meal, and the 88's seasoned chicken side. I was craving something cool and tangy, so I ordered the icy cold chicken noodle set. My husband ordered the Gyewon Set Meal to share with our child, and we added 88's seasoned chicken too.

At Gyewondang Ingye-dong, you can add soda or coffee for ₩900. The coffee machine looked pretty convincing too, but we picked soda! At other places, soda usually costs ₩2,000–3,000, but it was ₩900 at Gyewondang! There is also an ice maker, so you can make an ice-filled cup and pour in whichever soda you want. So satisfying, right?

My pick was Zero Coke. Holding onto that last shred of conscience....

There are aprons on one side too, so you do not get anything on your clothes. These disposable aprons are especially great when you go with children, because kids are really good at spilling on themselves. If you tie one securely around their neck, the long apron covers most of their clothes and keeps them clean.

The children's tableware we picked up from the self-service bar. My four-year-old daughter loved it because there was a cat on the pink bowl, haha.

How generous was the icy cold chicken noodle set?

First up is the icy cold chicken noodle set that I ordered because I wanted something cool-! It is a generous set with icy cold chicken noodles and a pork loin cutlet. At ₩13,000 with the cutlet included, the value was amazing right away! True to its name, the broth had little ice crystals floating in it, and one bite was tangy and refreshing.

A big bite of chicken and cucumber was tangy and refreshing. Even though this is not a restaurant specializing in cold chicken noodles, I was very satisfied with the flavor.

And the pork loin cutlet that came with the cold chicken noodles!! Having something hearty mixed in now and then while eating the noodles made me feel incredibly full, haha.

The crisp coating on 88's seasoned chicken

88's seasoned chicken. The moment I saw seasoned chicken on the menu, I could not just pass it by. As someone who loves seasoned chicken, I ordered it immediately. It was the boneless seasoned chicken I love. It came with seasoned chicken and cabbage salad.

Wow... it was delicious enough to tell plenty of chicken-shop seasoned chicken to step aside. Maybe because they fry so well? Since the chicken seems to be fried first and then coated in sauce, the crust was not soggy at all—just nicely crisp, with really good balance.

And eating it with the cabbage salad that came alongside took away any richness and made it even more delicious.

What came with the Gyewon Set Meal we shared with our child

The Gyewon Set Meal, which feels like Gyewondang's signature! If you have a big appetite, I think you should definitely go for the Gyewon Set Meal. It lets you try three things on one tray: handmade pork loin cutlet, chicken cutlet, and fried chicken. Cannot decide what to order? One Gyewon Set Meal lets you taste them all. And at Gyewondang, it comes with egg fried rice rather than plain rice!

Personally, I absolutely loved this. Maybe it is a mom's heart wanting to give her child egg fried rice instead of plain rice... The Gyewon Set Meal also comes with clear soup and cabbage salad as standard.

My husband was so hungry that he was cutting away without a thought, hahaha. He gave me no time to take photos—too busy cutting and eating.... He was genuinely serious because it was delicious..

Which of the three was the best? It really just came down to preference, I guess..? Honestly, all three were tender and easy to chew. Sometimes a pork cutlet can be tough and hard for a child to eat, but my child ate so, so well.

Chicken cutlet and pork cutlet shared with a child

My child said both the chicken cutlet and pork cutlet were delicious. She is usually a picky eater, so as a mom I was so happy that she ate so well. The sauces were not overly strong either, so they were just right for a child. There was also the tartar sauce she loves, and she made sure to dip everything in it.
