Halibut and rockfish sashimi on ice alongside seodeori spicy fish stew

Plates piled high with halibut and rockfish on ice, plus a seodeori spicy fish stew loaded with fish flesh — we enjoyed them together.

I wanted sashimi with a friend, so I searched for a 'raw fish restaurant near Yeoksam Station' and ended up at Sokcho Ojingeo Eosijang Yeoksam Branch.

We ordered the set for two that lets you try both halibut and rockfish on one plate, along with a spicy seodeori (fish bone/head) stew and rice. We got to eat sashimi, hot soup, and rice all in one sitting, and left feeling well fed.

Halibut and rockfish set for two at 39,000 won: what the order came to

That day at Sokcho Ojingeo Eosijang Yeoksam Branch we ordered the halibut+rockfish set for two at ₩39,000, seodeori spicy fish stew at ₩10,000, and two bowls of rice at ₩2,000, for a total of ₩51,000. Every table had a tablet, so we could check the menu and prices and order right away without calling a staff member over.

We picked this set because you don't have to choose just one between halibut and rockfish — you get to enjoy both kinds of sashimi on a single plate.

Sashimi alone felt like it wouldn't be quite enough, so we also ordered the stew and rice. It's a combo worth referencing if two people want to eat sashimi and stew heartily together. With so many menu options, I'd like to try other sashimi or seafood dishes next time.

Side dishes and the self-serve bar

Once we ordered, white kimchi (baek-kimchi), macaroni salad, lettuce, ssamjang (thick seasoned soybean paste), and wasabi were served first. Chojang (spicy vinegar sauce) and soy sauce were also on hand, so we could dress the sashimi to taste. The white kimchi was cool and clean, perfect for resetting the palate between bites of sashimi, and the macaroni salad was soft and savory.

There was a separate self-serve bar in one corner of the restaurant. You could freely grab more side dishes, garlic, chili peppers, and minced garlic as needed. Since I like to eat sashimi wrapped in lettuce, I added lettuce and garlic — it was nice being able to take as much as I needed without worrying about it.

How did the halibut and rockfish sashimi taste?

Soon the halibut and rockfish arrived, neatly arranged on ice. Radish sprouts and lemon were served alongside, and the plate looked generously full. The two types were kept separate, so it was fun to alternate between halibut and rockfish and compare the textures.

The sashimi had a clear, glossy sheen and was cut into pieces just the right size and thickness to pick up in one bite.

We tried it plain first, then with soy sauce and wasabi on top. Dipped in soy sauce, the sashimi's clean flavor came through clearly, and the wasabi added a light, sharp kick.

Next we dipped it in chojang and ssamjang separately. The tangy, spicy chojang paired well without any complaints, and adding garlic to the ssamjang made the flavor even richer.

Being able to enjoy one plate in several different ways kept it interesting from start to finish.

Seodeori spicy fish stew at 10,000 won, simmered at the table

The seodeori spicy fish stew we ordered alongside the sashimi is cooked right at the table on a built-in burner. The red broth was topped generously with crown daisy greens, and inside were plenty of fish flesh, bones, bean sprouts, and radish.

At first the broth looked relatively light, but the longer it boiled, the deeper the fish flavor became.

Scooping with the ladle brought up several large chunks of fish flesh. It was fun picking the meat off the bones, and the bean sprouts added a refreshing note.

The broth was spicy yet carried a deep, rich flavor drawn out from the fish, making it a great follow-up after the sashimi. The well-cooked radish in particular had soaked up the broth and turned wonderfully soft.

Topping a bowl of rice with radish and broth made the rice go down easily.

Is the Yeoksam sashimi set for two worth it?

Being able to enjoy halibut and rockfish together on one plate and finish with a hot stew left us thoroughly full. Since the restaurant stays open late many days, it's a good option not just for dinner but also for late-night meals or drinking sessions when searching for a raw fish restaurant near Yeoksam Station. If you want to enjoy raw fish sashimi and stew together at a reasonable price, Sokcho Ojingeo Eosijang Yeoksam Branch is worth considering.
