Gangnam sashimi restaurant: cuttlefish at Sokcho Ojingeo Eosijang

In short

Sokcho Ojingeo Eosijang Yeoksam Branch is a seafood restaurant in Gangnam, Seoul, serving sashimi and seafood dishes. I ordered flying fish roe cuttlefish sashimi for 38,000 won and Andong-style grilled salted mackerel, which was the real highlight. Verdict: reserve ahead for a group meal, and don’t miss the mackerel.

I kept seeing videos on Instagram of people eating flying fish roe and cuttlefish sashimi together. And then, well... I wanted it so badly!!! That’s how I ended up at Sokcho Ojingeo Eosijang Yeoksam Branch.

Finding Sokcho Ojingeo Eosijang from Yeoksam Station

Seafood restaurant location near a main road

It’s right beside a big main road, so it wasn’t hard to find~ We went on foot, by the way, haha. It wasn’t super close by bus or subway, but it was the kind of distance where you arrive while chatting away!!

There were lots of tables inside, and it was very clean. There’s also a self-service bar, so if you need more side dishes, you can help yourself~

And Sokcho Ojingeo Eosijang Yeoksam Branch has a second floor, too!!! It’s a great spot for company dinners or other group gatherings~

If you make a reservation, you can also get their crunchy secret vegetable salad, though it isn’t pictured here!!!

What we ordered and the lunch meal details

The table-order screen listed an Andong-style grilled salted mackerel set, so we ordered it, but apparently it’s only available at lunch... Rice also comes only with the lunch menu, so keep that in mind!!!

I didn’t see Andong-style grilled salted mackerel separately on the table-order screen... or maybe I just missed it? And they didn’t tell us when taking the order or ask us first; they told us as the food came out, which was a little disappointing haha. It was listed as a side dish on the large menu, though. Just remember that a meal set is available only at lunch~

So, how was the flying fish roe cuttlefish sashimi?

The flying fish roe cuttlefish sashimi I’d been waiting and waiting for came out!!!! I absolutely loved that it had so much flying fish roe~ haha

In the photos, the cuttlefish was placed on top without being mixed into the chojang (sweet-and-tangy chili dipping sauce)... but ours was already mixed, which was a little disappointing ㅠㅠ I thought it would have tasted better wrapped with ssamjang (savory soybean paste), lettuce, and seaweed rather than chojang.

And I don’t know if it’s normally like this, but it tasted a little bitter that day ㅠㅠ I looked up reviews, and nobody else mentioned that... If that’s how it normally is, I think it could be a love-it-or-hate-it thing, so keep that in mind!! The bitterness faded a bit when I dipped it in soy sauce, so that’s how I ate it~

I recommend the Andong-style grilled salted mackerel

The Andong-style grilled salted mackerel!! This was seriously delicious! The mackerel was plump and tender, and seasoned just right!! It would have been even better as a meal ㅠㅠ but the mackerel alone was still so good?!!

Honestly, I was debating this along with the sashimi and a few other things before ordering, but it was a success~ If someone in your group can’t eat raw fish but does eat grilled fish, I recommend the Andong-style grilled salted mackerel!!!!

If you’re planning a company dinner or group gathering at this Yeoksam Station restaurant, I recommend reserving before you visit~
