Signature Barrel White coffee at a Daegu café: Slow But Barrel Daegu

It was such a bright, sunny weekend that I couldn't stand staying home, so my daughter and I went on a Daegu café date. We headed to Slow But Barrel, a large café in Dong-gu.

Since it's near the airport, you can spot planes flying by pretty often while sitting in the café. With no tall buildings around, the view is completely open, so it was a day to properly enjoy a clear, blue autumn sky.

Where Slow But Barrel Daegu is and how to get there

Slow But Barrel is located in a residential neighborhood near Yonggye Station on Daegu Line 1. It's a 5-minute walk from Exit 1, so it's fine to visit by public transport too.

It's near M Star House, Queenbell Hotel, and Novia Gala wedding hall, so I heard a lot of guests stop by here after weddings on weekends.

How many cars fit in the parking lot?

Being a large café, the parking lot is huge too. Follow the arrow shown in the photo and you'll find a spacious private lot behind the building.

The parking lot entrance is this narrow, single-lane road. So you go in this way, and exit through the back gate.

The lot itself is set up really spaciously. According to the Naver Place listing, it can hold up to 80 cars.

Opening hours and the entrance at Slow But Barrel Daegu

This is the entrance leading into the store, located roughly between the parking lot and its entrance road. Panicled hydrangeas were blooming lushly along the path, and even in mid-September, everything was still lush and green.

Slow But Barrel is open daily from 10:30 to 22:00, and I heard it even stays open as usual during the Chuseok holiday. A lot of people go to cafés with family after the holidays, so this could be a great option to add to your list.

The bakery display and in-house bakehouse on an opening run

The first thing that caught my eye in the store was the Halloween decorations. There's still over a month to go, but I could already feel the fun, buzzing atmosphere.

I'd heard this place is always packed, so I did an opening run, but the bakery case wasn't fully stocked yet.

In a corner of the store, bread was being made nonstop at the in-house bakery, and the toasty bread smell was really something.

Freshly baked bread is always the best, right? These were baked and pulled out right next door on the same day, so it's guaranteed to taste good.

There's also a showcase of slice cakes and kids' juice next to the counter.

Three spaces: main hall, front yard and terrace

The store is broadly divided into the main hall, the front yard, and the terrace area on the side. The photo above shows the main hall — it's spacious with lots of tables, so it's good for groups, or for two or three people chatting. It looks a bit uncomfortable for solo work, though.

This is the front yard. It could be called the main space of Slow But Barrel, and thanks to the triangular pyramid structure, people also call it the 'Louvre of Daegu.'

With its roof and walls, it might look like an indoor space at first glance, but it's actually outdoors.

Right next to it is a fully open-air space with no roof at all, where grass has been planted around the pyramid structure.

There are also table seats outdoors, so this area would probably have a lot of charm in cool autumn weather or in the evening.

Are kids and pets allowed at Slow But Barrel Daegu?

Another reason this place is great to visit with family is that there's a space set up for children. Yes, Slow But Barrel is a Yes Kids Zone, so it's a great place to bring kids along.

The third space is the terrace. This indoor terrace area is where pets are allowed. (Eating with a pet is only allowed here!) A café that welcomes both kids and pets — how great is that!

Beyond the indoor terrace seats, another outdoor space opens up — one that feels like a European garden straight out of 'The Rose of Versailles.' Once it gets a little cooler, I'd love to come back here to elegantly enjoy a cup of drip coffee with a slice of cheesecake.

What's on the Slow But Barrel drink menu?

This is Slow But Barrel's drink menu. What stood out to me was the variety of menu items made with fruit grown on the family's own farm. Fresh apricot and peach drinks, grown and brought straight from the farm!

Barrel White, peach yogurt latte, salt bread and Ringle chocolate madeleine

For drinks that day, we picked the signature Barrel White and the peach yogurt latte, and for a simple bakery pairing, we grabbed the Ringle chocolate madeleine and salt bread.

First up is this — Slow But Barrel's signature coffee, Barrel White, which is espresso poured into sweet, nutty milk.

I was going to just get a regular latte, but I picked this since it's the signature — and after trying it, I had zero regrets.

When ordering, they mentioned it was a bit sweet, but I usually drink my lattes without syrup and it didn't feel overly sweet to me. The downside is that the portion is small... haha.

This is the peach yogurt latte my daughter picked. It was a sweet, refreshing drink combining freshly harvested peach with tangy, smooth yogurt.

I heard this place is famous for its salt bread. I wasn't going to buy any bread, but figured I should at least try the salt bread.

Crisp on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside — that's this salt bread. One bite and the soft, nutty flavor of butter wrapped around me completely. Now I get why everyone raves about Slow But Barrel's salt bread.

This is the Ringle chocolate madeleine my daughter picked. You squeeze syrup from a dropper into the madeleine before eating it, turning it moist and sweet inside — a dessert with a really clever, unique idea.

Sky and airplane views from the full-length window seats

Sitting right in front of the big window, we had a great view of the tall, blue autumn sky. It had been a while since I'd looked up at the sky like that... haha.

I got some proper eye-cleansing sky-gazing time after a long while. These days, I go to cafés more to enjoy the space than to drink something — and Slow But Barrel is a space where you can enjoy gorgeous nature and interior design right in the middle of Daegu, so I really recommend visiting at least once :)
