Sashimi bar in Magok with chicken heart skewers: Kuro Yakitori

In short

Kuro Yakitori is an aged-sashimi and yakitori izakaya in Gangseo, Seoul, a five-minute walk from Magongnaru Station Exit 1. The dinner omakase costs 29,000 won per person and brought six kinds of aged sashimi (croaker, marlin, salmon, mackerel, swordfish and sea bream), chicken tenderloin, heart and negima skewers, and a mini cup of instant noodles to finish. The chicken heart skewer, crisp outside and juicy inside, was the best bite, and the course is good value for a date or a relaxed night of drinks.

What comes in the 29,000-won dinner omakase

1. Appetizer: cucumber with sesame sauce

Cucumber appetizer topped with sesame sauce

The crisp, cool cucumber came generously topped with a rich sesame sauce, so from the first bite you got a soft, deep nuttiness. The cucumber's fresh moisture balanced out the heaviness of the sauce — a great appetizer to whet the appetite!

Table setting with a candle

There was a candle on every table too, which really added to the mood ❤️

2. The six-kind aged sashimi platter

The assorted aged sashimi platter had croaker, marlin, salmon, mackerel, swordfish, and sea bream! Everything was well-aged with a clear umami flavor and soft texture! The croaker and sea bream had a clean, subtle sweetness, while the salmon had a deep, oily richness haha

The marlin and swordfish had a chewy yet clean umami that stood out,

and the mackerel had that signature rich flavor but with no fishiness, just nutty ❤️ Each fish kept its own character while still having that deep aged flavor — I loved it!!

3. Chicken tenderloin skewer

The chicken tenderloin skewer was light and tender, but juicy inside, so there was almost no dryness! The seasoning wasn't too strong, and the subtle charcoal aroma paired well with the seasoning powder on top 👍

4. Chicken heart skewer (hatsu): the best bite

Chicken heart (hatsu) skewer

The texture was plump and chewy, and the more you chewed, the more savory meaty flavor came through. Crispy on the outside, juicy inside — this was easily the best skewer of the bunch ❤️

5. Negima (chicken thigh and scallion)

Negima skewer with chicken thigh and scallion

This skewer used chicken thigh so it was juicy and savory, and the sweetness of the grilled scallion plus the charcoal aroma was the real kick haha

6. Egg white with charcoal-grilled meat

Charcoal-grilled meat topped with egg white sauce

The soft, mild egg white sauce balanced out the salty richness of the tare, and with the added scallion and sesame it finished savory yet clean..👍

7. Mini cup noodles to finish

Mini cup noodles chosen at the end of the course

Interestingly, at the very end they asked us to pick two mini cup noodles and then cooked them up for us haha My friend and I picked Buldak Bokkeum-myeon and Chapagetti haha

But the moment I took a bite I understood why they saved the noodles for last,,, the owner really knows how to cook ramyeon haha it was so good my friend and I devoured it 😋

Verdict: is Kuro Yakitori worth 29,000 won?

  • Great value for aged sashimi plus yakitori at ₩29,000
  • The aged sashimi was well-aged with strong umami flavor...
  • Each yakitori part had a different texture, which made it fun to eat, and the charcoal aroma really came through!
  • Even the mini cup noodle finish at the end was surprisingly tasty and satisfying

I think the biggest advantage is being able to enjoy aged sashimi, yakitori, and a whole multi-course meal at this price. The atmosphere was cozy too, making it a good spot for a date or a casual drink. If you're looking for a good-value omakase, aged sashimi, or yakitori spot in Magok, this place is worth a visit ❤️
