Incheon optical shop for office progressives: Hwangseonsaeng

After having lunch at Haemokjeong, a 10-minute drive from my mother's home, we went to Hwangseonsaeng Angyeong Lensme Ruwon City Branch, an optical shop near Cheongna, to get glasses made! A few years ago, my mother had three pairs made in all, including progressive glasses and regular glasses. Since so much time had passed, she felt her eyesight had worsened and that she might need reading glasses, so we visited this Cheongna-area optical shop. We visited on August 31.

The examination steps before getting progressive glasses

Before the vision check, you first fill out some basic personal information.

The vision test took place in the exam room, but we could also watch the check on a monitor outside it. I think this was my first time seeing a setup like this at Hwangseonsaeng Angyeong Lensme Ruwon City Branch. I had LASIK, but I wore glasses from childhood, and even I had never seen an optical shop like this!! I think it would be especially nice when toddlers and young children come in.

At first, my mother planned to get reading glasses. After plenty of discussion with the optician, though, she thought it over and decided on functional office progressive glasses. It turns out there are many types of progressive glasses, too. You really need to think carefully about what you will use the glasses for before deciding and getting them!!

My mother does not really like accessories and finds anything fussy uncomfortable, so she does not usually wear necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and so on in daily life. Because she is nearsighted and cannot see nearby things well, she initially planned on regular reading glasses, thinking she would just keep putting them on and taking them off. But because she uses a computer often and cannot see small print up close, she decided on the functional office type among the progressive glasses.

She had progressive glasses made about three or four years ago, too, but she said this was the first time she had heard such a detailed explanation. Even among optical shops, it really varies enormously depending on the optician. I felt how important that is both when we got my husband's glasses last time and when we got my mother's glasses this time.

Lastly, after finishing the vision test and choosing a frame, they checked the focus according to whether she wears her glasses higher or lower on her face. They also checked manually in the first photo—I had never seen that before, haha. So fascinating!

Frame prices and the spacious store interior

The inside of Hwangseonsaeng Angyeong was huge. Frames started at ₩30,000, and there was still plenty of variety at ₩30,000. This Cheongna-area optical shop says it sells frames honestly at fixed, clearly marked prices. I guess excessive marketing markups on frames must be common.

There were also all kinds of booklets about childhood myopia, so I had a look through them.

Among the children's glasses, there were frames that do not break, so I looked around and examined them from every angle.

I have worn glasses since fifth grade, and my husband says he has worn them since childhood, too. It is not hereditary, but since both parents had poor eyesight from a young age and wore glasses early on, there is a strong chance our child will need them too, so I am very interested in toddler glasses.
