Crested gecko adoption at a Seohae, Incheon reptile shop: Crerism

After coming across crested geckos at pop-up events a few times, I found them cuter every time I saw them, and eventually I started thinking I wanted to raise one myself. That is how I ended up at Crerism Incheon Cheongna Branch (크레리즘 인천청라점). To give away the ending first, I went there just to think about it—and ended up bringing a lily white home as part of the family.

When I walked in, there were plenty of animals, including crested geckos and turtles, as well as a good variety of essentials such as enclosures, hides, and artificial plants.

As a first-time keeper, I liked being able to see everything in person and look through it one item at a time.

They also showed me the crested geckos in person, so I got to let one sit on my hand. As expected, seeing one in real life was very different from seeing photos.

The way it clung to my hand with its tiny feet was so cute, and the longer I looked at it, the more I wanted to bring one home.

The problem was deciding which little one to take home.

I could not decide right away and kept going back and forth, but no one rushed me to choose. They told me it was fine to take my time looking and deciding. Since it was my first time keeping one, there was a lot to consider, so I felt much more at ease that they waited for me.

The lily white that came home with us

After thinking about it for a long time, I finally chose the lily white I liked most.

The manager said that usually children are the ones who want a crested gecko, and parents often come to like them after raising one too. They found it funny when I said I had come to pick up my mom's friend. 😆 I also liked that paid hoteling is available if we ever need to be away from home for a long time.

Before we brought it home, they fed it some superfood. It did not seem to eat more than a few spoonfuls, but its tiny belly became round so quickly—it was fascinating. Watching it eat in person made it feel real: I was really taking it home now.

They explained that getting the temperature and humidity right is important when keeping a crested gecko. Even after getting home, I have been checking the temperature and humidity constantly.

They also packed up the enclosure carefully for us to take home. Once I put the lily white into the enclosure I had bought, I could not stop peeking in at it for a while.

What felt helpful for a first-time keeper

While looking into crested gecko adoption in Incheon this time, I realized that choosing an animal matters, but for a first-time keeper, it is just as important to find a place where you can ask questions comfortably.

In particular, I could not make up my mind right away and spent a long time thinking, so the fact that they waited for me really stayed with me.

I am sure I will keep having questions after bringing it home, about things like temperature, humidity, and food, so I plan to get in touch now and then to ask.

I finally brought home the crested gecko I had looked at a few times at pop-up events. It is still a tiny lily white, so I am curious to see how it will grow.

For now, the first goal is to make sure it eats well and to keep the temperature and humidity right. Our crested gecko life at home is just beginning.

At Crerism Incheon Cheongna Branch, I could look around in person at everything from crested geckos available for adoption in Incheon to animals and husbandry supplies, and it was a place where I could take my time thinking as a first-time keeper.
