Cheongpyeong butcher shop with Hanaro Mart parking: Ari Chuksan

In short

Ari Chuksan is a butcher shop on Gangbyeon-ro in Cheongpyeong, Gapyeong, where barbecue meat, wrap vegetables and sauces for a pension stay can all be bought in one stop. On this Gapyeong trip we parked at Ari Chuksan and picked Korean beef skirt (chimasal), pork neck (mokssal) and yukhoe (raw beef tartare), then grabbed drinks and snacks at the Hanaro Mart right next door. For anyone driving through, Ari Chuksan finishes the whole barbecue grocery run in a single stop.

Pension barbecue meat in Cheongpyeong: why Ari Chuksan

On this Gapyeong trip, we were planning to grill barbecue at our pension, so we got the meat ready in advance. For pension barbecue you need more than just meat — wrap vegetables, ssamjang and the rest — so a place where you can grab everything at once is ideal, and Ari Chuksan (아리축산) is exactly that kind of place.

Where to park at Ari Chuksan: the Hanaro Mart next door

Ari Chuksan doesn't have its own parking lot, so it's easiest to either park briefly in the space right in front of the store, or park at the Hanaro Mart next door and shop both places together. We parked the car first, bought meat at Ari Chuksan, then picked up drinks and snacks at Hanaro Mart.

Walking in, we noticed a lot more customers than we expected. It wasn't just Gapyeong travelers — locals come here to buy meat too, and apparently it's well-known enough that even celebrities have stopped by.

What kinds of meat does Ari Chuksan sell?

Ari Chuksan really does stock a wide range of meat. From high-quality Korean beef cuts like sal-chisal, sirloin and striploin to imported beef, pork, lamb ribs, jeyuk (spicy stir-fried pork) and more — the variety is impressive. If you're traveling to a Gapyeong pension with a group, everyone might want something different, so it's great to have this many options to pick from according to taste. This time we chose Korean beef and pork neck, but I'd love to try other cuts next time.

Korean beef skirt, pork neck and yukhoe: how much did it cost?

We also checked the prices while shopping, and overall nothing felt overly expensive. Of course it depends on the cut and quantity, but we managed to pick up Korean beef skirt, pork neck and yukhoe without it feeling like a big splurge.

Wrap vegetables and sauces in the same stop

When you're prepping for a pension trip, it's usually a hassle to buy meat in one place and then run around for vegetables and sauces elsewhere. Here, though, you can conveniently pick up wrap vegetables, mushrooms, a variety of sauces, and drinks and alcohol alongside the meat, all in the same place. Thanks to that, we didn't need to stop anywhere else — we could finish the whole grocery run smartly at Ari Chuksan alone, saving a lot of time. Really convenient.

Yukhoe bought on slaughter day, with sauce from 300g

It happened to be slaughter day, so we were able to buy yukhoe. Order 300g or more and you get either a soy-based or gochujang-based sauce included. Just mix in the sauce and the yukhoe is ready, so even someone who isn't great at cooking can put it together easily.

Is Ari Chuksan worth a stop on a Gapyeong drive?

After visiting in person, I felt Ari Chuksan is a great Gapyeong butcher shop for prepping barbecue meat before heading to a pension. We could get beef and pork belly together, and considering you can also pick up wrap vegetables, ssamjang and salt alongside the meat, it's a solid stop for grocery shopping before a Gapyeong pension stay. If you're heading to Gapyeong with barbecue plans, it's much easier to have the meat ready ahead of time, so it's worth swinging by along your route.

The prices overall felt reasonable, so if you need to prep meat for a Gapyeong trip, it's worth a visit. If you're planning a barbecue at a Gapyeong pension, buying meat at Ari Chuksan and then finishing the rest of the shopping at the Hanaro Mart right next door saves time and works well. This Gapyeong trip was satisfying — we had tasty grilled meat and yukhoe to enjoy at ease back at the pension. Next time I'm in Gapyeong, I'd like to stop by again.
