Busan barbecue restaurant with shoulder rack: Donbegi Gwang-an
In short
Donbegi Gwang-an Branch is a barbecue restaurant in Suyeong, Busan, serving shoulder rack and ogeopsal. On a late evening, I ordered the 600 Mixed Set for ₩55,000 with spicy doenjang-jjigae and scallion salad. Verdict: the thick, charcoal-scented shoulder rack made Donbegi Gwang-an Branch worth revisiting.

When the movie ended on Sunday evening, it was already night... I was sooo hungry and wanted something filling, so I looked for somewhere open late and headed straight to Donbegi, which sells shoulder rack in Gwangalli!!

It’s tucked into the Millak-side alleyways, where there are lots of little hidden gems. It spans the first and second floors, and it’s huge and all sparkly with lights, so I’d always wanted to stop by when passing it.

There’s a menu board right at the entrance too! Having it there is nice because you can take a quick look before going in without even searching it up.

All kinds of wine greet you as soon as you walk in. It isn’t in the photo, but you can even see the meat refrigerator at a glance, so I thought, oooh, this isn’t just any barbecue place~~ I was excited!

I went quite late, so I couldn’t go upstairs to the second floorㅠㅠ But inside on the first floor, there was plenty of space between tables, which made it comfortable, and the tables themselves were wide enough for two people.

I always eat pork neck or samgyeopsal, but shoulder rack?!?! This was my first time seeing it in Gwangalli. I’m not that into fatty parts, but it barely had any, plus I wanted to try it, so I ordered it right away. Even though it was shoulder rack, it wasn’t more expensive than other barbecue places—it actually felt like great value.

Putting utensils directly on the table somehow feels a little iffy, but they laid down a sanitary sheet here. And when I read that they use domestic female pork, slaughtered that day and aged through four stages for 20 days, I got even more excited about the meat.

The sauces set out after ordering: shiitake sauce, wasabi, and salt.

Near the grill were myeongran (seasoned pollock roe), ssamjang, and kimchi.

For extra side dishes, you can simply pick them up at the self-service corner without needing to ask the owner!

Thick Shoulder Rack Grilled Over Charcoal
The 600 Mixed Set finally arrived!! The meat looked so appetizing from the color alone, and all the vegetables came neatly prepped too.

You don’t have to touch the meat at all—they grill every bit of it for you ♡ Restaurants that grill the meat for you are just so convenient that I keep seeking them out, and I loved that Donbegi did it all for us.

The spicy scallion salad was what I think of as the key here. They give you lots, so you can serve yourself some, and the spicy flavor plus the sesame oil really popped—it was so good 🥺

The doenjang-jjigae lets you choose the spice level. I chose spicy, and it really was a nicely sharp, spicy stew—so good that I finished a whole bowl of rice with it in no time 😢
Time to get seriously grilling~~💕 They heated up the charcoal and put it in. They grilled the thick shoulder rack first. Since it was charcoal, it cooked faster than I expected.
The more it cooked, the more the aroma came through, and above all, the quality of the meat was so good. Once I tried it, honestly, it was one of the tastiest meats I’ve had lately...ㅠㅡㅠ I loved that thick, chewy bite, and the charcoal made it feel like a barbecue camping trip too, so I think I’ll definitely come back when I’m craving meat.
Donbegi is set up perfectly for a nice meal with babies, family gatherings, and even pets, because they grill every piece of meat for you.
