Changwon barbecue restaurant for family ribs: Shashlik Masan Branch
In short
Shashlik Masan Branch is a charcoal-grilled meat restaurant in Deokdong, Changwon, Gyeongnam. For a family birthday meal, we ordered a lamb platter, Special Shashlik, and about 700 g of beef ribs, and loved the odor-free lamb and well-separated seating. Shashlik Masan Branch is a lovely pick for a special family barbecue.

Where should we go for a family get-together after so long? I was thinking it over. The whole family was finally together, and one family member had a birthday, so I was looking for somewhere nice. Then I found Shashlik! They grill everything directly over charcoal 🔥, with a wide variety of meats from chicken and pork to beef and lamb. The atmosphere looked great too, so without a second thought, we chose this place for our family gathering!

A camping-like space at Shashlik Masan Branch

This is the entrance to Shashlik Masan Branch. Go inside past this standing signboard and you’ve arrived at Shashlik.

“Shashlik” is a dish enjoyed in Central Asia and Russia, made by skewering ingredients and grilling them over charcoal. 🍢 Shashlik Masan Branch does not serve skewers, but true to its name, it specializes in charcoal-grilled meat.

After parking, just head up to the second floor.

Once you get to the second floor, there is a campfire area where you can enjoy watching the flames. Campfires are available from the evening on weekdays and from daytime on weekends, so keep that in mind when you visit~
Ta-da! This is what Shashlik looks like inside. It feels a little like a campsite and a little like a hideout, with such a uniquely charming atmosphere.

The spaces are very well separated with partitions, making the layout perfect for couples or blind dates to spend some cozy time together. There was even a guest with a dog when I visited. I think that clear separation of spaces may be why Shashlik is loved as a dog-friendly restaurant in Masan.
A varied Shashlik menu, from pork to lamb

Here is the menu at Shashlik Masan Branch. As you would expect from a great Masan meat restaurant, there are many meat options, including pork, chicken, sausage, lamb, and beef. The menu comes in a range of sizes too (regular/add-on), and the owner explains the choices personally.
Our family meal: lamb platter, Special Shashlik, and beef ribs
To try a bit of everything, the four of us (two men and two women) ordered the regular-size lamb platter Shashlik, Special Shashlik, and about 700 g of beef rib Shashlik.

Because it is grilled directly over the flame and cooked to order, it takes about 10 minutes. In the meantime, they set out all sorts of sauces that go well with barbecue. From the top left, there were spicy barbecue sauce, chili sauce, mustard sauce, garlic sauce, jalapeños, and pickles. They also brought out whole-grain mustard and cumin seasoning, so it was fun trying the meat with all the different sauces.

You need something fizzy with meat, right? The omija (Korean five-flavor berry) ade on the left and grapefruit ade on the right were refreshing before the meal and really woke up our appetites.

This is the lamb platter Shashlik and Special Shashlik. The meat at the top is lamb, and the meat at the bottom is the mixed platter.

Along with the meat, there were king oyster mushrooms, broccoli, bell peppers, and pineapple too~ The variety of vegetables was perfect alongside the barbecue. The lamb at Shashlik was incredibly tender and had absolutely no gamey smell, so even my parents, who do not usually prefer lamb, were happy with it~

This is the beef rib Shashlik. A huge whole beef rib arrives at the table, making it as fun to look at as it is delicious.

Under the rib bone were flame-grilled onions, with garnishes such as asparagus and cherry tomatoes, making the meal feel even more abundant.
What is the proper finish after meat? Fried rice, of course! The fried rice was cooked with leftover vegetables and spicy barbecue sauce, then topped generously with cheese—it somehow went down so easily even though we were full..! 🤤 It was the perfect hearty ending after all that meat~
