Changwon charcoal grill restaurant with sea view: Shashlik Masan
In short
Shashlik Masan Branch is a charcoal-grill restaurant in Deokdong, Changwon, Gyeongnam, with sea views. I had charcoal-grilled pork belly and pork neck shashlik, chicken thigh shashlik, cheese fried rice, and roasted marshmallows by a mini brazier. Getting to Shashlik Masan Branch in Deokdong, Masan, and parking
Shashlik Masan Branch is in Deokdong, Masan. Drive about 1.9 km farther in from Haemaru, famous for its waffles in Masan, and you will spot a yellow balloon-shaped standing sign on the left side of the main road.

Turn left and head in,

and there is a dedicated parking lot behind the building. The entrance is on the second floor. Going up the stairs, I loved getting that camping feeling right in the city, with a heart-light photo spot and Shashlik's signature campfire atmosphere. The wide-open sea view was also such a good mood-lifter.

From sea views to private seating
This is the interior of Shashlik Masan Branch. There were warm lights, photo spots, private seats, floor-to-ceiling sea-view seats, and room-style seating, with lots of options to suit family gatherings, dates, or get-togethers with friends. They also had blankets and high chairs available.

Ordering charcoal-grilled shashlik
As you can tell from the name, shashlik is the signature dish here. It is a charcoal-grilled steak specialist that says it uses carefully selected meat and fresh ingredients, cooking them over direct heat to bring out the meat's natural flavor! I ordered the regular charcoal-grilled pork belly and pork neck shashlik, plus an extra-size charcoal-grilled chicken thigh shashlik.

Before the shashlik arrived, they brought out tableware, four sauces, pickles, and jalapeños. The sauces were spicy sauce, chili sauce, garlic sauce, and mustard sauce. While my husband and I were chatting away, a staff member came over first.

They lit the candle in the mini brazier and placed the food on it. I really loved that thoughtful touchㅠㅠ

Charcoal grill kept warm at the table
The griddle was piled high with beautifully charcoal-grilled pork belly, pork neck, chicken thigh, and grilled mushrooms, bell peppers, garlic, broccoli, and pineapple. Such generously sized pieces of perfectly grilled meat!
I put some on my small plate, cut it with my fork, and took a bite. The charcoal aroma had really soaked in—it tasted just like meat grilled while campingㅠㅠㅠ The meat was so delicious on its own that it did not need any sauce! Anyone who loves charcoal-grilled meat will absolutely love this. When you camp, you have to grill it yourself while breathing in smoke, but at Shashlik it arrives fully cooked, so you can enjoy charcoal barbecue so conveniently!

I also tried it with the house-made sauces and the grilled vegetables and pineapple, but honestly, I liked it best plain :) And the very best thing was being able to enjoy the food warm until the end! Meat dishes cool down quickly, and once they do, the fat firms up, so there is usually that pressure to eat fast before it gets cold. Here, though, we could chat and take our time eating, which I really loved :)
Cheese fried rice and marshmallow dessert
After slowly enjoying the meat, we ordered one fried rice as well. They took away the griddle, added vegetables, and stir-fried it, and they let us know when ordering that it would be slightly spicy.

The nicely browned cheese on top of the fried rice had my mouth watering. My husband likes mixing the cheese through, so he gave it a good shake-shake before eating. Can you see that stretchy cheese? The rich, savory cheese flavor came first, followed by the well-seasoned rice. Every grain was evenly flavored and delicious! It was like a richer, stickier version of pilaf. And just as they had warned us, it was a little spicy for my husband, who cannot handle heat haha.
After eating our fill and paying, the owner asked whether we wanted marshmallows at the campfire zone. We said yes and waited,

and they gave us one skewer each, so we properly finished with roasted marshmallows too!! When you need a break in the city or a change of mood, I recommend Shashlik Masan Branch, with the smell of burning firewood and a sea view that makes your heart feel wide open.
