Charcoal barbecue in Deokdong after a Robot Land visit

We came here for dinner after going to Robot Land in Masan, haha. It is located out in a sort of countryside area of Masan, but more people came here than I expected—it really is a popular spot! The rural atmosphere was lovely, and since the charcoal barbecue comes already grilled, it looked easy to eat too, so we decided to try it.

The address is 7 Deokdongnam 1-gil, Masanhappo-gu, Changwon, Gyeongnam, South Korea. It is open 11:00–22:00 on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and is regularly closed every Tuesday.

Parking is right beside the restaurant. We arrived a little early for dinner, but while we were eating, reserved guests started arriving and the place filled up quickly.

After parking, head up to the second floor and you will see the restaurant. It seemed like you could use the yard outside too, haha. Maybe because the weather was nice, but the view was so pretty! The countryside setting and the restaurant just suited each other somehow.

The inside looks like this. It had a cozy atmosphere, and the interior went beautifully with the view outside. Shashlik Masan Branch is also a dog-friendly restaurant. The view through the windows looks like a painting, haha.

It looked like they were setting up a campfire in the yard earlier. They said campfires are held in the evening on weekdays and from daytime on weekends! We visited on a weekday, but perhaps it needed to get darker—we did not get to see it.

Ordering charcoal-grilled chicken thigh and rice

The charcoal-grilled barbecue choices included pork belly and neck, chicken thigh, house-made fresh sausage, a mixed lamb platter, and lamb shoulder; they said the lamb shoulder is a popular menu item! Each charcoal-grill option had a detailed description, so it would be helpful to choose after reading them, haha. There were also a truffle plate (ciabatta and fries), Korean beef striploin steak, Timon charcoal-grilled shashlik steak, and premium beef rib charcoal-grilled shashlik. Drinks included house-made fruit-syrup ades and sodas.

After debating, we ordered the charcoal-grilled chicken thigh. They said the thigh meat is tender, so it is good for children to eat, haha. We also ordered one bowl of rice!

First, the basic sauces came out. There were four kinds of sauce, along with pickles and pickled chili peppers. Because of how the food is cooked, it takes around 15 minutes after ordering! If several orders come in at once, though, it may take longer.

It came out a little over 20 minutes after we had waited. Even though it was a weekday evening, there were quite a lot of guests, so I think it took a bit longer. Still, because it comes fully grilled, it was nice that we could eat it right away!!

The chicken thigh was full of juices and, as expected, tender and easy to eat, haha. We tried it with the different sauces, and with the vegetables and mushrooms that were grilled alongside it too! Since it was so tender, the child with us ate it really well too, haha.

Fried rice is limited to one order per pan! We ordered one fried rice too, haha. They said it was spicier than Shin Ramyun, so we asked them to make it a little less spicy.

The cheese on top was so delicious, haha. The charcoal grill was tasty too, but the fried rice was completely my kind of food. It was not red, but it still had a spicy kick, and it went so well with the cheese that we scraped up every last bit, hahaha. A restaurant with great fried rice too, haha.

We also had the watermelon offered for dessert. They give you a cup filled with ice, and you can put as much watermelon on top as you want to eat, haha. We ate until we were full and finished with cool watermelon—such a perfect meal.

Shashlik Masan Branch in Masanhappo-gu had both a great atmosphere and great food, so we were very satisfied! It is dog-friendly, making it nice for a visit with a pet, and it is good with children too, haha. The meat was tender and came already grilled, so it was convenient to eat as well, haha. If you are coming with a larger group, I think it would be better to reserve ahead.
