Gyeongju mochi shop: four peach-free flavors to Busan, Tareudang

In short

Tareudang is a fresh-fruit mochi and tart dessert shop on Sajeong-ro along Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju. On day two of a one-night Gyeongju trip, a peach allergy meant skipping the peach mochi, so Tareudang packed mango, pineapple, kiwi and fresh chocolate mochi with an ice pack and a cooler bag for the ride home to Busan, where the ranking came out kiwi first, then mango, pineapple and chocolate. With 500 won off each mochi when you buy four or more, Tareudang is an easy stop for stocking up on gifts.

Where is Tareudang in Hwangnidang-gil, Gyeongju?

Tareudang (타르당) is a fresh fruit mochi and tart shop at 49 Sajeong-ro, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongbuk, right in Hwangnidang-gil. If you spot an Olive Young in Hwangnidang-gil and turn right, you'll see it straight away! The orange awning really stands out haha.

I got back from Gyeongju just a couple days ago haha. We had a blast eating and hanging out at a Gyeongju pool villa, then headed to Hwangnidang-gil the next day haha. Gyeongju is close from Busan so it feels like a little day trip haha. Still, since it was technically a one-night-two-day trip, I figured I had to try some kind of signature Gyeongju dessert, right?

Here's what the exterior looks like — small but packed with good stuff.

Hwangnam mochi at Tareudang — look at that visual, so mouthwatering +_+ Whole fruit goes right inside. Cream, whole fruit, and red bean all together — the visual is insane.

Tareudang's menu: fruit mochi plus egg tarts and cheesecake tarts

Tareudang sells fruit mochi, but they also have delicious tarts!_! There's a tart set (2 egg tarts + cheesecake), brûlée cheesecake tart, mango egg tart, mango cheesecake tart, and plain egg tart. I should have grabbed a tart too... lol. I'll get one next time.

In the showcase were the delicious mochi I was about to buy >,< You have to try every flavor when something's this good, right? haha

This is the egg tart — looks so mouthwatering too haha. It was pretty big.

The day's mochi flavors and the four I chose without peach

On the day I went, Tareudang's mochi of the day were mango, kiwi, pineapple, peach, and fresh chocolate. Unfortunately the Shanghai butter rice cake was sold out ㅠ.ㅠ... Seems like the lineup shifts a little each day. When I was there they were prepping to make a fig mochi too.

According to the labels, mango, kiwi, and pineapple use diplomat cream, and peach uses Greek yogurt cream haha. Because of a peach allergy, I packed 4: mango, pineapple, kiwi, and fresh chocolate.

What I really liked here was the '₩500 off per piece when buying 4 or more mochi' deal. Just FYI~

How the mochi survived the drive from Gyeongju to Busan

The fox drawing on the cooler bag was so cute lol. They packed it up fast. It felt like classy packaging, great for gifting.

The packaging box was also orange, clean and tidy.

A sweet slice of Gyeongju, "Tareudang" — may today's tart make your trip even sweeter.

They also tucked a small ice pack under the box :) Thanks to that, it stayed cool all the way to Busan.

As soon as I got home I opened it up to try it right away. The wrapping paper was colorful hanji (traditional Korean paper) too, so pretty haha.

How Tareudang's mochi tasted: kiwi came first

For me, Tareudang's kiwi mochi was the tastiest >,< Cut it in half and see~

Inside, the cream was thick yet melted instantly in the mouth, with sweet red bean mixed in, and the fruit was fresh so it tasted really sweet and good haha. There's a whole kiwi packed inside >,< My partner and I each took a bite together and kept complimenting each other on how good it was lol.

This is the pineapple! The custard powder on the outside was sweet and the rice cake was so chewy-chewy!

The chocolate one was sweet ㅇ.ㅇ I put it in the fridge for a bit before eating haha.

My niece devoured the mango one so fast I don't even have a photo of it ㅠ.ㅠ... Gone the moment it was cut lol. My ranking was kiwi > mango > pineapple > chocolate haha.

This seems like a perfect gift to bring back if you're visiting Gyeongju~ I should have bought a few more... now that I've had it, I'm already craving it again haha. I'd really been wanting fruit sando lately, but this whole-fruit mochi soothed that craving for now lol.
