Gyeongju mochi takeout shop with a whole fig inside: Tareudang
In short
Tareudang is a takeout fruit mochi dessert shop on Sajeong-ro along Hwangridang-gil in Gyeongju. Already full from lunch, the writer packed one fig yogurt mochi and one pineapple mochi at 5,500 won each and cut them open to find a whole fig tucked inside chewy rice cake, which made buying only two feel like a mistake. Tareudang mochi loses some of that chew after a night in the fridge, so it is best eaten the same day.

Gyeongju really is overflowing with things to eat, haha, one step, one dessert! On this Gyeongju trip we ate a ton, and one place we made sure to hit was Tareudang, famous for its fruit mochi. Why wouldn't we eat this?! Let me introduce Tareudang!!!!

Where is Tareudang, and where do you park?
Tareudang is a takeout shop at 49 Sajeong-ro, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongbuk, in Hwangridang-gil. There's no dedicated parking lot; the nearest public lot is Hwangnam Public Parking Lot, a 3-minute walk away.
Haha, you can spot the fruit mochi sign from far away! Go a bit past the Ichini Sando intersection and — tada — you'll see a white building with an orange awning right away. There are plenty of nearby public lots you can use.

What else does Tareudang sell besides fruit mochi?
Fruit mochi is Tareudang's main thing, but they also sell cheesecake and egg tarts~~ The egg tarts also seem to change with the season — they had plain egg tart and mango tart???? Haha, I was so curious about the egg tarts too.
Apparently if you write a Naver photo review, you get a free box and cooler bag! Haha.

Pineapple mochi: too big for one bite
We were already full, but I felt we had to try it, so we got pineapple and fig!! Finally trying the fig one too, haha. The fig is obviously seasonal too.
Isn't the round packaging of Tareudang's fruit mochi just so cute? Haha. It'd make an adorable gift too. It was way heavier than I expected — not the tiny mochi I was used to!!!! So much anticipation.

Chewy rice cake packed full of pineapple, so good. The fruit is genuinely fresh and delicious, and the rice cake is nice and chewy with cream and red bean in just the right amount. It's also huge — way too big to eat in one bite, you'll definitely need to cut it haha. There seems to be castella crumbs on the rice cake too, and it's really good.
Fig yogurt mochi: a whole fig inside

And here it is. Fig mochi. There's literally a whole fig inside???? Unbelievable.
Needless to say, the fruit flavor is incredibly fresh and sweet. And the combination with the rice cake, cream, and red bean is just perfect. Why did we only buy two of these?! This isn't like the regular mochi wrapped in glutinous rice cake we know — the rice cake is genuinely so chewy and delicious...
I'd recommend eating it the same day. It felt like the rice cake was melting, so I put it in the fridge, and the chewiness disappeared a little. So sad. But still, so happy haha, because it's just that good.

Is Tareudang mochi a good Gyeongju dessert gift?
Tareudang's fruit mochi is a Gyeongju dessert I'd highly recommend. It's generously packed with fruit and beautifully wrapped, so it'd make a great gift in bulk too. From now on, Tareudang is a must whenever I'm in Gyeongju!!!
