Busan mulhoe restaurant with six free noodle bundles: Suseong Susan

In short

Suseong Susan is a mulhoe (chilled raw fish soup) and sashimi bibimbap restaurant facing the sea in Sinho-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan. During the 1 hour 30 minutes their dog was at the groomer, a couple ate a half-and-half olive flounder and flounder mulhoe and a half-and-half flounder and mullet mulhoe at 20,000 won each, and because somyeon noodles are refilled free through the table tablet, the husband alone got through six bundles. The sashimi portions at Suseong Susan are more generous than usual mulhoe and even the abalone was fresh, so the couple plan to return for wild yellowtail in winter.

Why we drove to Suseong Susan in Sinho-dong during a 1 hour 30 minute dog grooming

I'd dropped our dog Siwol off for a grooming session and had about an hour and a half free, so I was thinking where to go for lunch nearby — and then, oh! I remembered Suseong Susan in Sinho-dong, a place I'd wanted to visit for months, and went straight there without a second thought 🚗 It was only about 15 minutes from the groomer's, so it was easy to get to.

In front of Suseong Susan there's a calm stretch of sea, and there's plenty of space to park around, so you can just pull in anywhere.

Wide waiting deck outside Suseong Susan's entrance

I'm pretty sure I had my birthday party on this exact spot years ago, and back then I remember them selling steamed or grilled shellfish or something. Is this really the same place...? The interior has definitely changed completely now.

Out front there's a wide deck like this for waiting or resting.

Inside Suseong Susan: seaside seating and how long the wait is

Interior of Suseong Susan with sky-blue ceiling and beige tables

I still remember that old floor-seating room, so seeing it transformed like this! The sky-blue ceiling and beige tables are so pretty and go so well together. The lighting is simple too — very current style.

I figured it was full because it was the weekend, but they said there's a wait even on weekday lunches! I mean, once you see how the mulhoe looks, you can't help but be curious enough to come. Already a well-known spot — sounds like people hear about it as the go-to sashimi bibimbap restaurant in Myeongji and come find it.

Table at Suseong Susan that just opened up

There were barely any empty seats so it was hard to get a shot, but I snapped one as soon as a table opened up. Such a great vibe for eating mulhoe 😋

Sign about self-caught fish and wild yellowtail at Suseong Susan

Whoa, they actually go out to sea themselves to catch the fish they sell. I heard they specialize in wild yellowtail in winter too — definitely have to come back for that.

Most items on the origin label board are domestic 👍 Yellowtail is a mix of domestic and imported due to supply issues.

I loved how many kinds of fish go into the mulhoe. You can also add extra sashimi and they sell abalone porridge too! ✔️ We were going to order the same thing, but we each picked a slightly different one so we could taste a variety.

Our order: two half-and-half mulhoe bowls for 40,000 won

  • Flounder-halibut half mulhoe ₩20,000
  • Halibut-false halibut half mulhoe ₩20,000
  • Total ₩40,000
Two bowls of half-and-half mulhoe set on the table

My flounder-halibut half mulhoe came out about 10 seconds before my husband's halibut-false halibut half mulhoe followed right after 🎶

Mulhoe topped with half halibut and half flounder sashimi

Halibut on the left, flounder on the right — the pieces looked small and thin so I thought it might be a bit skimpy, but as I ate I felt the amount was way more than the usual mulhoe portion at other places!

Plate of sashimi for the halibut-false halibut half mulhoe

This is the halibut-false halibut one, but what's that fish in the middle? I forgot to ask. It somehow felt like his had more sashimi than mine — probably just because I'm a total glutton. 🐖

Tray with base banchan, noodles, and abalone

Having everything come out separately on its own tray is so neat, appetizing, and convenient. The base banchan were jelly, fish cake, beans, and king oyster mushroom, plus noodles for the mulhoe and fresh abalone.

Free somyeon refills: my husband ate six bundles

A single bundle of noodles served at first

Since it was just one bundle of noodles and we always load our mulhoe with noodles no matter what, we were briefly stumped haha — but relaxed once we spotted the free refill option on the tablet.

Beef seaweed soup and rice

Really generous portions 👏 The seaweed soup even had beef in it, mild and great to eat with rice.

Four bundles of noodles received in place of rice

My husband asked to swap his bowl of rice for noodles instead, and they brought him four bundles 👍 That still seemed a bit short for a noodle glutton, so a few minutes later he requested two more refills and gave me one. He ended up eating six bundles of noodles total.

A full mulhoe spread made even more generous with extra noodles

No wonder office workers nearby must flood in at lunchtime. Why doesn't my workplace have a place like this. ㅠ

How the icy broth and the abalone taste

Icy mulhoe broth with cabbage

The broth was properly slushy with ice. There was a huge amount of cabbage underneath, and yes, I ate all of it. Haha.

Mulhoe mixed with noodles and topped with sashimi

Add the noodles, mix it all up, pile the sashimi on top, and eat it together — it's cool, sweet-and-tangy, and instantly perks up your appetite. I tried each piece of sashimi on its own before adding it in too, and everything was fresh and springy and delicious.

Fresh abalone served alongside the mulhoe

The abalone was so fresh too — crunchy and so tasty. You can pile the sashimi in generously like that, or eat it separately — totally our style.

I'd finally made it to a place I'd wanted to visit for so long, so I was already pretty satisfied — but the taste was also the kind that's broadly appealing, something anyone would enjoy, and the quality was great too. The interior is clean and spacious, and it seems like a good spot for gatherings too. Next time I'll have to go back for the yellowtail. 😁
