Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch: a Chinese restaurant in Marine City, Haeundae

I was looking for a Chinese restaurant with a decent atmosphere in Haeundae, Busan, and ended up at Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch! Marine City has plenty of cafés with great views and stylish restaurants, but this time I wanted something a bit more filling, so I picked a Chinese restaurant~ We ordered a bit of everything that day — jjajangmyeon, jjamppong, tangsuyuk, and dumplings — and had a proper full spread!!

What is the dining room at Bueokgan Chinese like?

First off, the interior was much cleaner and more sophisticated than your typical neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Everything was well organized overall, and the tables were arranged comfortably for eating, so it felt like a good spot for friends and also worked fine for a family meal!!

The overall clean look of the place fit well with the Marine City location, which made a good first impression. When you think 'Chinese restaurant,' you might picture something a little old-fashioned, but Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch had a more modern, comfortable feel, making it a nice stop during a Busan trip too!!

Tangsuyuk: worth adding one dish for a group

If you're going to a Chinese restaurant with several people, tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) is a must. Jjajangmyeon and jjamppong alone would've been enough, but adding tangsuyuk made the meal much more substantial. It was crispy on the outside with the meat texture still alive on the inside, so it paired well with both the jjajangmyeon and the jjamppong. A bite of jjajangmyeon, then a piece of tangsuyuk, then a sip of jjamppong broth — that combo really is the most reliable and satisfying way to go. If you're visiting with a group, ordering one tangsuyuk to share is a great move!!

How was the jjajangmyeon at Bueokgan Chinese?

Once you're at a Chinese restaurant, jjajangmyeon is unskippable. Mixing the noodles well with the black bean sauce gave a nutty, mildly sweet flavor that came together nicely. The sauce wasn't too heavy or greasy, so it was easy to eat without feeling weighed down, and it paired well with the noodles. It also went fine alongside dishes like tangsuyuk or dumplings, so if you're ordering several menu items together, jjajangmyeon is worth including!!

Is the jjamppong spicy or clean-tasting?

And then the jjamppong we ordered together! If jjajangmyeon is on the mild, nutty side, jjamppong was definitely the spicy, refreshing dish that shifted the mood. The hot broth was nice to spoon into between bites of the other dishes, and alternating between it and the jjajangmyeon really brought out how different their appeals were. It's especially good when you've been walking around Haeundae or Marine City looking at the ocean and start craving something hot and spicy! If you're torn between jjajangmyeon and jjamppong at a Chinese restaurant, I'd recommend just ordering both and sharing.

Free fishbowl dumplings for writing a review

They gave us fishbowl dumplings for writing a review! On the house! The jjajangmyeon, jjamppong, and tangsuyuk were already plenty filling, but adding dumplings on top made it feel like a proper full Chinese meal spread! They were easy to just pick up one at a time, so they worked well as a side dish, especially when there are several people sharing a little bit each. They were also nice to nibble on before the main dishes arrived or in between courses!!

Is Bueokgan Chinese worth recommending for a meal in Haeundae?

When you're looking for somewhere to eat around Haeundae and Marine City, you tend to find a lot of Korean BBQ places, raw fish restaurants, and restaurants with a nice atmosphere. If you're after a more relaxed Chinese restaurant in Busan, Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is a solid option. The interior is clean and the menu has plenty of variety, so it seemed like a good fit for family, friends, or couples. If you've got Haeundae or Marine City on your Busan trip itinerary, it's worth checking out as a filling meal spot — a good Haeundae restaurant, a good Marine City restaurant. Especially if you're going with a group, I'd recommend ordering a mix like we did — jjajangmyeon + jjamppong + tangsuyuk + dumplings :)
