On the 1st floor, the self-serve bar is set up near the center of the hall. The 2nd floor has one too, of course. There were various side dishes prepared, all fresh, which I liked. And they pair well with pungcheon eel.

Is 1kg of salt-grilled eel enough for two, and do staff grill it?

Here's what Mimi ordered. I visited with my husband, and we ordered 1kg of salt-grilled eel. You really have to taste eel's true flavor through salt-grilling!

Table set with charcoal and basic side dishes

Good-quality charcoal came out, and the basic side dishes were set.

So excited. The eel that came out looked so, so fresh. The thickness and length were great.

The staff grill all the eel for you, which makes it even more delicious. It's eel grilled expertly by skilled hands. Grilled nicely over good-quality charcoal.

I liked it even more because the staff grilled it well for us.

It slowly turns a brown color as it grills deliciously,

and in the meantime I brought over lettuce and perilla leaves from the self-serve bar.

As the fat renders out, the already-delicious eel gets even better.

Bokbunja salt and tteok skewers with the eel

The first bite was the tail, dipped in the tasty salt.

The salt was bokbunja (black raspberry) salt. The salt had a bokbunja flavor that added a nice aroma to the eel.

They also brought out tteok (rice cake) skewers and grilled them for us. Rice cake grilled well over charcoal really tastes like the kind you'd have while camping outdoors.

It grilled up this nicely.

Finishing with one earthen pot of chueotang each

Really delicious eel plus chueotang came out. Giving one bowl per person was nice for hygiene, and it was a hearty way to finish. The richly simmered, bubbling broth was so good for restoring your energy.

We also ordered rice and mixed it in deliciously.

Takeout eel and eel extract to carry home

Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel Direct Store also does takeout. I noticed on my way to the self-serve bar that a lot of people were taking food home like this.

I thought of my family at home too, so I timed an order to be ready when we finished eating! Somehow it felt reassuring since it's grilled and packed right there. They prepared the eel well and grilled it nicely.

Packed it up like this and took it home! Take care of your family after a work dinner too.
