Best eel place I've been to lately, hands down 👍 Thick freshwater eel grilled over charcoal, rich eel soup, and a place fully equipped with a group room and kids zone — I really want to recommend this one!

The restaurant has its own dedicated parking lot, and you can also use the Yeonji Plaza lot across the street.

The health benefits of charcoal-grilled eel — wait, there's a poster listing the benefits? Now that's a real local favorite, lol.

Group room and kids zone: is Ildeung Chamsut Jangeo good with children?

The moment I stepped inside Ildeung Chamsutt Jangeo, the spacious, clean interior caught my eye. There are group tables from 4 to 8 people, the spacing between tables is generous, and the seats are comfortable — it looked like a great spot to bring your parents along too.

There's a separate kids zone (play room) inside the restaurant, so while the adults enjoy their meal at ease, the kids can pass the time without getting bored!

On top of the regular hall seating, they also have a nicely set-up private group room.

The room is a fully separate space, which looked genuinely perfect for a company dinner or a family gathering٩꒰。•◡•。꒱۶

What side dishes arrive with the eel

Once we ordered, out came a neat, clean spread of banchan (side dishes).

Side dishes including small plates, ginger strips, and pickled perilla leaves
Small plate (with sauce) • ginger strips • pickled perilla leaves • minced chili jangajji
Acorn jelly, fried eel bones, and wrap vegetables side dishes
Acorn jelly (mukbap) • fried eel bones • pickled radish • sliced onion • wrap vegetables

Perfect for elevating the eel's flavor even more..! Totally worth the table setting fee.

Plate of crispy fried eel bones

The fried eel bones especially — first time trying those — were so crispy and nutty I kept reaching for more, haha. The mukbap (acorn jelly dish) had a cool, savory kick that really got the appetite going.

Any side dishes you run low on, you can grab more freely from the self-serve bar, which was convenient.

How the 1kg charcoal-grilled freshwater eel tastes

Today's star — the 1kg freshwater eel — arrives. Even at a glance the eel looked thick and plump! The flesh was so well filled out that it already felt like a win before it even hit the grill.

The first batch of pre-grilled eel comes out, and the owner personally and carefully grills it for you. Watching it turn golden on the charcoal grill was already making my mouth water ᐝ (๑⃙⃘´༥`๑⃙⃘)

The gentle charcoal aroma soaks into the eel, completely cutting the fishy smell, and it cooks up crispy outside, tender inside ••

Picking up a fully cooked piece of eel

I picked up a nicely golden piece of eel, dipped it lightly in just salt, and ate it right away! Crispy outside, completely moist and springy inside.. 👏🏻 The second you bite in, the savory eel juices burst out — the flavor was insane ㅠㅠ

Topped with the sweet-salty teriyaki sauce and a bit of sharp ginger strips, the nuttiness and savoriness just explode. All the greasiness gets cut and you keep eating without limit — pure magic..✨

I ate it with the side dishes too, and also wrapped it up properly in lettuce for a satisfying bite.

Finishing with eel soup and kimchi pancake

After filling up on grilled eel, you've got to finish the meal off with eel soup, haha.

It comes out simmering in a stone pot, and the savory aroma was spot on. Eel simmered down thoroughly with siraegi (dried radish greens) and all kinds of vegetables generously packed in, making the broth genuinely deep and rich. Even full, I mixed in rice and cleaned out the broth too 🤤

The first bite of well-fermented kimchi had such a great bite to it, and pairing a piece of the tangy, crispy kimchi pancake between bites of the nutty grilled eel meant there wasn't a single moment of greasiness — the combo was the best! If you're torn on a side, I highly recommend getting the kimchi pancake too ◟( ˃̶͈◡ ˂̶͈ )◞
