A snack stop in Jeonju Hanok Village after touring Gyeonggijeon Shrine

When I think of traveling to Jeonju, one of the first places that comes to mind is Jeonju Hanok Village.

Walking through the pretty alleys lined with hanok houses, there's so much to see and eat that it makes traveling really fun.

This time too, I slowly wandered around Jeonju Hanok Village and even stopped by Gyeonggijeon. Gyeonggijeon houses the royal portrait of King Taejo, founder of the Joseon dynasty, and it's one of Jeonju's most historic sites — the mix of quiet hanok buildings and old trees was really beautiful!! If you're touring Jeonju Hanok Village, I'd recommend dropping by Gyeonggijeon too.

After looking around Gyeonggijeon and walking through the alleys, I gradually got hungry, and while searching for a Jeonju Hanok Village snack I discovered Munkkocchi Mungangjeong Jeonju Hanok Village Branch.

What we ordered at Munkkocchi on Eunhaeng-ro

At Munkkocchi Mungangjeong Jeonju Hanok Village Branch, I ordered chicken skewer, octopus skewer, and a slushy beer. True to its location in the hanok village, the building itself was so pretty it caught my eye — the hanok atmosphere really came through and fit well with Jeonju Hanok Village.

When I think of Jeonju Hanok Village street food, all kinds of snacks come to mind, but here it's skewer menus, so they're easy to hold and eat while wandering the village — perfect.

How the cheese chicken skewer tasted

I tried the cheese chicken skewer first — the sauce was tasty and the chicken was juicy, much better than I expected. But what really surprised me was the octopus skewer!

Was the mala octopus skewer chewy? Not at all

Octopus skewers can easily end up tough and rubbery if not done right, but this one was genuinely soft, which shocked me!!!!!! The signature chewy texture of octopus was still there, but it wasn't tough — it was tender enough that I kept reaching for more, and I think this is the softest octopus skewer I've ever had. Personally, it was the most memorable thing I ate that day.

The slushy beer I ordered alongside the skewers was also really refreshing and delicious. Maybe because I'd been walking around the hanok village for a while, the chill really hit, and it paired well with the skewers.

Sweet snacks are great for a Jeonju Hanok Village treat, but I also liked having something this filling.

Why Munkkocchi is worth a stop for Jeonju street food

If you're looking for something to eat while taking a quick break during your Jeonju Hanok Village walk, I'd especially recommend this place. You get to enjoy the hanok village atmosphere and eat delicious skewers at the same time, so it was a great stop mid-trip.

If you're looking for Jeonju Hanok Village street food, try the chicken skewer and octopus skewer. Of the two, the mala octopus skewer, which was so tender, was my favorite.

After touring Gyeonggijeon, walking the pretty hanok alleys, and then eating this delicious Jeonju Hanok Village snack, I really got to feel the fun of traveling in Jeonju.
