Chinese restaurant in Gimhae, sharing jjajang and jjamppong: Dongbaek
In short
Dongbaek is a large Chinese restaurant on Gaya-ro in Dongsang-dong, Gimhae, with a spacious main hall and private rooms screened off by curtains. Three diners ordered the lunch special course A at ₩20,000 per person: shrimp cold salad and abalone porridge, yusanseul (stir-fried seafood and vegetables in thick sauce), tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) made with fresh tenderloin, yurinji (crispy chicken in tangy sauce), and a final noodle course split two jjajang to one jjamppong. The seasoning at Dongbaek stays mild throughout, which makes it an easy choice for a meal with parents, and jjajang was the better of the two noodle picks.

Hi everyone, it's Rimju!!! Today I'm bringing you my review of Dongbaek, a tidy, spacious Chinese restaurant in Dongsang-dong, Gimhae! It's a great place to bring your parents, or perfect for group gatherings and enjoying good-value course meals. From the entrance you can already feel how clean and neat the place is, and the interior is huge, so it felt really comfortable for group get-togethers or family meals out.

You can park downstairs and come up the stairs right beside it. There's also a parking area in front of the restaurant, so no need to worry about parking!!!!!!!!

Inside Dongbaek: the hall and curtained private rooms
The interior is a really luxurious Chinese restaurant look~~ Clean, with a red-toned atmosphere that makes you feel like you've stepped into China! There's the main hall, but also curtained-off private rooms, so you can have a private meal with someone special 👍 Great for company dinners, gatherings, after-parties, first birthdays, 70th/80th birthday parties, or any group event!

Lunch special course A at Dongbaek: price and how to order
This is Dongbaek's menu. You can order through the kiosk, and what I ordered was the lunch special course A, ₩20,000 per person × 3. There are plenty of other noodle dishes and courses too, so order whatever suits your taste!

What comes with course A for three people
🍽️ I ordered the most popular course A! From the hearty dish lineup to the final noodle dish, everything came out in order and I was very satisfied!
1) Appetizers: shrimp cold salad and handmade abalone porridge
The course kicks off with a refreshing shrimp cold salad alongside warm, savory abalone porridge (jeonbokjuk). Mild and not overly seasoned, it's just right for waking up your appetite!

2) Main dish: yusanseul at Dongbaek
The seafood and mushrooms keep their texture, and the flavor is mild but deeply savory, making you keep going back for more. Overall, Dongbaek's seasoning is on the milder side across the board.

3) Main dishes: yurinji and fresh tenderloin tangsuyuk
The tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) had a batter that stayed crispy for a long time, paired beautifully with the sweet-and-sour pink sauce. A textbook crispy-outside, tender-inside combo! We were told to squeeze lemon over the yurinji, and did — the tangy, crispy combination was excellent!

4) Choosing your noodles: jjajang or jjamppong
Around the time we finished the main dishes, we got to choose our noodle dish, and we went with 2 jjajang and 1 jjamppong. The portions were smaller than a regular jjajang or jjamppong, but given how much we'd already eaten in the course, it felt just right. The jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) had chewy noodles and a sauce that wasn't overly sweet, making for a clean finish. The jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) noodles were well soaked in broth, and the somewhat meat-based, spicy, rich broth cut right through any greasiness. That said, I'd recommend the jjajang more!

5) Dessert: pineapple to finish
After the meal, they even gave us a refreshing pineapple dessert to cleanse the palate — a perfect finish!
Who Dongbaek in Gimhae suits best
The biggest strength is being able to enjoy high-quality Chinese food as a course, and with the spacious dining room and easy parking, it's a perfect spot to bring parents or someone special. If you're looking for a Chinese course restaurant in Gimhae with great atmosphere and good food, I strongly recommend Dongbaek in Dongsang-dong!
