Have you suddenly felt autumn arriving lately? It’s funny—just because it got a little chilly, I feel like I’ve eaten nothing but gukbap (rice soup) every day for the past week. Hey! If you asked a Busan local where they go for gukbap, I think they’d say, “The place near home, or somewhere I go all the time!”
It started with, “Let’s just grab some gukbap,” and we ended up properly enjoying dwaeji-gukbap (pork rice soup), sundae-gukbap (Korean sausage rice soup), and even a tasting portion of sundae.
Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap Gyeongseong-Pukyongdae Branch: location and atmosphere
It is close to Gyeongseong University–Pukyong National University Station, as well as both Gyeongseong University and Pukyong National University, so it was easy to find.

It is a gukbap restaurant, but the tables and tableware were clean and hygienic—just right for a bowl of soup. I honestly expected only Gyeongseong and Pukyong students, but there were lots of older neighborhood regulars too, along with a mother dining alone.

Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap Gyeongseong-Pukyongdae Branch does not have its own parking lot, so you will probably need to check nearby public parking.
Ordering dwaeji-gukbap, sundae-gukbap, and tasting sundae

- Sundae-gukbap ₩9,500
- Tasting sundae ₩10,000
This is actually a Gyeongseong University favorite that we have visited again and again, and Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap’s signature dish is suyuk baekban (boiled pork with a set meal). But today, we wanted lots of rice and meat, so we ordered the dwaeji-gukbap and sundae-gukbap—and, as expected, we were happy. You can bring back the side dishes after ordering from the self-service bar, which was great because we could pile them on without worrying about it.

A self-service bar with buchu (garlic chives) is not that common, but Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap Gyeongseong-Pukyongdae Branch had everything, starting with the chives, so students could eat without feeling self-conscious. I was touched!

Unlimited noodle add-ons and rice
At Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap, noodle add-ons are unlimited! I prefer adding noodles rather than rice to dwaeji-gukbap, but these days you usually have to pay extra for them. Here, the noodles are unlimited!!

Yes… today, I am going to eat until I burst.

Unlimited rice too, because students come here… The owner’s heart is so warm that I felt warm even before eating the gukbap.

Dwaeji-gukbap with a clean yet rich broth
Dwaeji-gukbap, sundae-gukbap, and tasting sundae.

The pale broth was topped with plenty of scallions and a light sprinkle of pepper. Hot steam rose up, and even while taking photos, the fragrance of the gukbap gently spread around us.

The first bite of gukbap absolutely has to be the broth! It was not overly heavy or salty, leaning clean and mild, so the first spoonful went down easily.

I ordered dwaeji-gukbap and my husband ordered sundae-gukbap. The sundae-gukbap had a little less meat and included sundae, but otherwise tasted the same. The broth was rich without being overly intense, and the sundae had a soft texture when you bit into it—definitely a flavor sundae-gukbap lovers will enjoy.

The dwaeji-gukbap skipped the sundae but had quite a lot of meat—enough that I passed some over to my husband. The meat was soft rather than dry. When you eat the broth, rice, and meat in one bite, the savory flavor comes through even more. There was plenty of meat, too, so I could keep eating it with every spoonful. Having it with the hot broth warmed me up in no time; it really felt like autumn.

Dwaeji-gukbap needs lots of chives and lots of noodles, right? This pork soup is great because you can add as much as you want.

Make sure you add noodles to your dwaeji-gukbap. It tastes like traditional Korean ramen!

When I eat dwaeji-gukbap, I like it with onion, garlic, and chili peppers. As expected, they went perfectly together, and I finished every last drop.

The most important thing with dwaeji-gukbap is probably kimchi, right? The kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) and napa cabbage kimchi were tasty too, making the gukbap even more enjoyable.

The broth fills you up comfortably, so it would be good for breakfast or a late lunch. And if you are looking for a great gukbap place near Gyeongseong University to cure a hangover, you might order soju while recovering… then repeat: hangover cure, soju, hangover cure.
Tasting sundae that makes a sundae lover happy
There is a sundae ghost living in our house… it is my husband. He was happy and full after having sundae-gukbap and plenty of tasting sundae too. As its name suggests, the tasting sundae looked like an easy portion to add without feeling like too much, and the outside was moist rather than dried out.

Having sundae midway through the meal made it more fun than eating gukbap alone, making this a perfect dish to share. Dipped in the special soy sauce, the sundae became even more delicious. Next time, I thought I should order the suyuk baekban with tasting sundae too.

From solo meals to family dining
I think I will visit Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap Gyeongseong-Pukyongdae Branch again on days when I need to eat alone around Gyeongseong University and Pukyong National University, or when I want something warm. It is good for a solo meal and family dining alike, and gukbap is fitting not only for lunch but also for when you want a hearty late meal. The prices are not too burdensome, so I think it is a good choice for anyone looking for a good-value meal near Gyeongseong University. I recommend it if you want a satisfying meal that is not overly intense.
